I just got a call from Publicis... DOHA lol. Part of me is like yeah yolo do it until the world goes back to semi normal and the market isn’t oversaturated... but Doha?! Is it worth the yolo?! Ok I‘ll stop saying yolo...so is this career suicide or a good opportunity to save money and stay productive. Thoughts?!

You know what? Do it. Especially if you are a white straight man. Good expat $$$, lots of AC and plenty of alcohol behind closed doors. If you are gay or female, well, things will get a bit tricky. I’m gay myself so I guess I’m allowed to make that comment.

But. Or with your lack of rights outside of that office. Read up, be sure. Things you take for granted may not apply.

For those of us not in the know... DOHA??

Soz! Doha is the capital city of Qatar. 45mins flight from Dubai.

Def less YOLO if you’re a woman, unfortunately.

Maybe more YODO for that one.

For those following at home, Doha is a city (the capital) in Qatar

I don’t know what Yolo means but Doha is great. A cool city, a little less conservative and, if you like to travel 6 hours from the rest of the world. I would go for it.

Publicis mainly ruins the careers of creatives. Since you’re account, you’re insulated from any portfolio damage. I say go for it. Maybe for a year, then come back after the virus subsides.

Hard pass. Hard to work in a location where 1) you’re guilty until proven innocent 2) if you’re an American you have to watch your back. 3) you will work 24/7 4) it’s HOT AF.

Totally.. it’s not like we live in a country that’s run by a sociopath, with little/no work-life balance and dealing with irreversible climate change.

1) For people who are asking about Doha. Use Google. 2) Work is global, more so than ever now as we all work from home. If you’re getting solid international experience and it’s a good team/client base — go for it!

Why move to Qatar? Seriously corrupt AF.

I was stationed in Doha a while ago. I thought it was a great country. It’s very progressive, even for a traditional Islamic country, and doesn’t have any of the economic or political turmoil of the region. The locals are really kind, it’s very safe, and it’s beautiful. I wouldn’t settle down there, but for a couple years I could see myself going back.

Everyone has a price, right? If it’s ridiculous, go for it.

How much money are we talkin about?

I know M&A has a terrible rep, but if there’s anyone who enjoys it (or at least doesn’t completely hate it), could you please say what you like about the practice? Interviewing for an M&A position and really do want to love the job, at least for a year. FYI, I’m retooling from lit, and no, staying at my current firm isn’t an option.
