I just got back from maternity leave and my global project is already expecting me to work 7-7 some days even though I was very clear on my availability and time I need for my family. How do you all handle things like this? The amount of work and the sheer number of emails I get in a day is already insane and adjusting back to work is hard enough as it is.

I don’t have a great answer for this because I’m still figuring it out. But I make sure to block off my calendar for an hour or two each day to be with my kid, play, feed him, put him down etc. Sometimes that’s in the morning before meetings and sometimes that’s 6-7. And if anyone puts time on my calendar during that hour or two I decline and say I’m unavailable.

I’m so sorry you have to work such crazy hours. Transitioning back to work isn’t easy, thus, the team should be supportive and understanding in your first couple months. Could you let the manager know that you would appreciate some flexibility and some downtime with your little one? If nothing changes, do you have an option to work less hours or even go part time if you really need to?

Divvy it up with the team. It’s unreasonable for anyone to have to take a 7am and 7pm call. Offer to do 7am and send notes to everyone and then propose someone else does 7pm. We have teams for a reason!

I’d love to hear how you’d approach this dilemma. I’m currently a SWE manager and spend half of my day coding and web architecture along with Security and the latter half in managing and production support. Over the last two months, I applied to over 50 opportunities and had to turn down over half of them because they barely match my current compensation/benefits, and the ones that do either end up rejecting me because I’m being told there are better candidates. What’d you do?

Hi guys 👋🏻👋🏻
I am filling the onboarding form for my next company IBM where they have asked 2 questions:
1)Were you earlier a member of Employee's provident fund scheme, 1952?
2) Were you earlier a member of Employee's pension scheme, 1995?

All I know is PF and EPS amounts were deducted from my salary in my previous company but how to know if I am a member of these two mentioned schemes?

Thanks in advance for your inputs guys 🙌🏻

I have a client that is terrible. Their whole company is in flux, massive scope creep & one of the people at the company is highly verbally abusive.

But it’s also a retainer that is stable & pays well (and im not sure if I can backfill them easily right now between all of the tech layoffs & the upcoming holidays).

I’d love any advice - im leaning towards firing them & hoping things work out (because my mental health > $$$), but am nervous because the job market isn’t exactly humming.

Recently I had an emergency that required me to leave work around 10am on a Thursday to take my 5 year old son to the ER. I let my manager know he was going to be admitted and I wouldn’t be at work the next day. Friday morning I get a text at 8:05 asking if I’m coming to work. Not, how’s the little one? You guys okay? I never miss work, ever, and this felt like a complete slap in the face. I’ve wanted to quit for a while, but this is the icing on the cake. Should I say something to my manager?

He used to be way more behaving and generally a sweet boy said the daycare and neighbors. I know he is a good fella. Could this be just a phase?! It's worth mentioning both his dad and I are going through stressful times at work.

They get very good grades, etc but they both seem way too worried if they get a less than perfect grade. Do any of you stay with your current job bc of the flexibility you’ve earned over the years? I’ve been at the same company for ten years and am SO READY to make a change but I’m scared to give up the flexibility.

For example, my 3 and 1 year olds were home with me all week because daycare had to shut down. I did as much as I could, joined calls and met all deadlines but I also stepped away a lot during the day to pay attention to the kiddos. I’m scared if I go somewhere new this wouldnt be ok.
