I just got back from maternity leave last week and have a meeting with hr/partner tomorrow. Am I being let go?

Honestly this is why when people say you owe it to your team and your firm to do xyz I say screw that. Yes, be professional and don't burn bridges...but remember that your firm will cut ties with you quicker than you can blink if the going gets hard. I'm really sorry OP it's terrible timing!

like

Well I was let go and I am a mom. Another senior manager in my office was let go at the same time as me and she is a mom. A manager was let go from another office in September and she was a mom. All tax. I have not heard of any men in my whole area being let go. But maybe they are just more quiet about it? Somehow I doubt that.

If they fire you now. Sue them

like

That's some bullshit. They shouldn't fire someone who just had a baby. Did it hurt heir conscience even a little?! You will be fine OP. Another opportunity will come. I'm sure you are a very skilled professional. Enjoy the new addition to the family.

like

Three interviews this upcoming week. EY doesn't even know what they've lost

like

We are praying for you, and for all others being laid off. You will find other opportunities somewhere else. Don't take it personal, it's happening to hundreds of employees right now at EY.

like

Jeez people, why would you freak her out like that. How can you just say, "yeah you're getting fired"? Like another person said, it might just be a touch point after a long absence to confirm next steps and any other admin stuff you need to close out.

like

Go home sick before your meeting, or at the very start of the meeting, say that you're pregnant again.

like

Wow as I was reading this thread, I was about to reply - chill out people, it's probably just a "catch-up" meeting after she was out on maternity - little did I know someone would actually fire a mom who just gave birth a few weeks ago! 😳😖

like

Meeting with HR isn't normal. It sounds like they're firing you, which is a dick move and seems like it should be grounds for a lawsuit

like

How were you doing before mat leave? Thanks to FMLA you can't be fired for going on maternity leave and they run the risk of being sued by firing you immediately afterwards. Probably just a catch up meeting.

like

My friend got fired at 2 pm.....

like

maybe its a welcome back meeting

like

You've been out for 8 weeks (?) I'm sure it's to catch up

like

Let us know tomorrow. #positivevibes

like

That's why I'm 90% sure that's not what's happening

like

If it was just partner, you would be ok. HR being involved is weird. Nobody meets with HR in my office. I think you're getting fired, but that would be a ballsy move for them. Let us know what happens!

like

Then it's not layoff. They do that first thing in the morning.

like

Doesn't EY offer 16 weeks of paid leave ? Hopefully everyone taking leave takes the maximum since the firms are #heartless.

like

OP, I suggest you talk to a lawyer about whether it's enough grounds for a lawsuit. For example, was anyone else let go in your office? How many more people? How did they choose you?

like

maybe you just know a lot of moms...?

like

Looks like this is the meeting to let you go. I would start saving personal files from your work computer because they will take away your laptop immediately.

Need advice: I have a young child who’s father has been mostly absent. Sadly, he passed last month and just found out he did have a life insurance policy with my child as the beneficiary. I was told that I can also claim his SS benefits for her as his only beneficiary until age 19. The question is what do I do with this money?? Can it be put into a UTMA account? I quite literally know nothing about these types of payouts and the rules associated with them.

Sooooo I am trying to figure out if I should put 6k into a Roth IRA or a traditional IRA for 2022. I have the money now. Currently, I am in the 22% tax bracket and can contribute to Roth IRA. However, I am engaged to my fiancée. The wedding is currently set for 2023, but we are considering doing a courthouse wedding late December for tax benefits. He is in the 35% tax bracket, and if we are married at year end there would be too much 2022 income for a Roth. Continued…

I don’t know much longer I can take with all of this. I just want to be with my person, could careless about anything else.

Has anyone here gotten pregnant with someone they were dating vs married to? Can you share your experience? Is that still frowned upon in 2022? I know culture also comes into play for some. Even though it seems we are more progressive now - none of my friends had kids before marriage. Especially those with professional careers etc. It seems like the whole first comes love then comes marriage and baby thing is still standard. Does it really have to be though? Especially if you're in your 30s.

Who’s an account executive? It seems like this is an extremely popular and challenging role in sales. Let’s all discuss what we sell, what company we work for, our OTE and if we like our current employer and if we don’t like them what do you wish would change? Let’s specify if we are mid market, enterprise etc. so we can see how the comp compares. Are the goals they set for commission and bonus realistic? Anyone else had to deal with construction next door? I get the daily jackhammers while trying to work from home and not using our backyard due to noise/dust. But every time they infringe on our property, the response is hostile. Broke our front fence from pulling on it, stand on our back fence until it shakes, and today dropped something on our roof. Each time they act offended when asked about it. 3x had drug addicts using on the site since it’s left unsecured, and they still won’t secure it.
