I just got home from a Portland NYE party. Not one person talked about their work or asked me about work. It was refreshing. That gave me an idea for a two question survey. 1) Do you live to work...

I wish I could answer work to live but definitely live to work. I find myself talking about work way too much and in the moment, hear myself but can’t stop. Hate it — in the process of trying to figure out how to live again In NYC

same. I used to chalk it up to being an “ad nerd” but I realized it was to cover up my lack of a social life outside of coworkers/old colleagues (my anxiety) and zero hobbies. One thing that has helped me is that at parties - which were hosted by a coworker or previous colleague - talk to someone who doesn’t work in advertising. it’s difficult but helps in the long run. also it’s more interesting. still a work in progress though. hope that helps.

I work to live in NYC. The good salary allows me to live for the things I love to do outside of work.

I work to live, in NYC. Life’s too short to be obsessed with a job.

...or work to live? 2) In what city do you live and work? Also: Happy 2020!

I came into this living to work. Today, I work to live and pay my Manhattan rent, the $100+ at the supermercado each week, etc. It is what it is.

None of my friends in NY talk about work either at parties beyond, “how’s work? Fine”. People mostly talk about mutual friends, family, travel, tv shows/movies and kids.

I’m somewhere in between living to work and working to live. I love what I do, but it depends on what I’m working on at the time. I work in NYC and live in NJ b/c NYC is too damn expensive.

I moved to Europe to be able to live comfortably in general. Work to live.... my salary’s very low but basic needs are taken care of, I don’t feel like I’m going to be broke by healthcare costs.

Had an interview where the agency said they don't do "junior / mid / senior" levels in their creative department. My CW and I are st that stage where that seniority is important for us and for our future progression. Is it one of those things that we fight for on the contract, or just sign anyway and just put "senior creative" on our LI title? I've never come across this before, so any experience or thoughts are appreciated.

My wife is a finance manager. At the start of the new year, she got a job at a small tech firm locally for 25% raise. It's owned by private equity. While they did say it was long hours, she's been working 8a to 10p each workday, with team calls from 6-10p. She's also been working 6 to 8 hours Sunday. What do you all advise she do? How can she manage expectations when her boss is VP of finance, reporting to CEO, who is over promising? Last person they hired quit after 2 days.
