I just got promoted, compensation wasn’t what I expected but I’m not mad about..

However I was already planning on leaving consulting for a bit and go back to industry. I really like my manager who has been nothing but supportive so far so seeking advice on how to approach my two weeks notice discussion when 1- i’m in the middle of a busy project as a central key role 2- I just got a promotion. It seems ungrateful but I genuinely want to go back to tech without burning bridges

I've been in the same shoes. While I always look out for myself and try my best to not be attached to my team, I will always try to make the transition as smooth and polite as possible.

Here's what I do:

1) actually have the offer in hand

2) tell the new firm you are in the middle of an incredibly important initiative and require 4 weeks notice instead of 2 in order to avoid material detrimental harm to the old team (most firms will be okay with 4 weeks)

3) tell your manager you are leaving and want to ensure a smooth transition so you are giving a 3 week notice

4) take that extra week off to completely detox.

Just give 2 week notice as usual and do a good job with handoff. You are not the first person to leave Slalom during a busy project or after promo. They will figure it out as they have done thousands of times before.
