That’s 🥜. If they truly valued you, they’d be willing to give more. Try to negotiate. If that doesn’t work out, take your talents elsewhere.

Should they? Sure. Are the obligated to? No. Welcome to the club of jaded consulting professionals where we are overworked and undervalued

Leave. I've been there. Your manager doesn't care about you. They're going through the motions.

I've worked at CGI before and their annual reviews have always been a joke. 3-4% was it unless you got a promotion

like

Unfortunately, first year members at CGI will typically receive this kind of increase. Annual increases puts newer members at a disadvantage because you're practically competing against more senior members. Directors receive a budget and determine how much of that money gets divided among their members. This is why many leave after 1-2 years working there and I don't blame them. If you plan to stay, I recommend requesting for an out-of-cycle salary adjustment. This is really the only way you'll receive higher increases over time and what I've told my members whenever they feel like they deserve more. You'll need to build a case for your director for sure. Be more vocal about getting larger increases (don't whine and complain). Just be sure you can back it up and prove your essential to the team.

I’ve had many reviews like that with 3% raises. It may be common, but it doesn’t mean you should let it be common for you. Ask for a raise in this job market. Most companies struggle to hold on to good people.

like

Inflation this year is more than your increase. You just got a pay cut.

likefunny

You can’t really negotiate- but you can angle for an off cycle raise… Companies didn’t reset their % allocated for salary based on inflation. Your firm sets aside 4% having some familiarity…

That is decent for CGI standards. I knew people who received 1-2% raise and bonus. Enjoy the shares you receive

GLAD TO KNOW THIS DIDNT JUST HAPPEN TO ME! I heard 4% and absolutely deflated. I have no clue what’s going on here but I’m done.

like

How long have you been working at CGI for?

3-4% is a pretty average % raise across most places for a non-promotion year. Everyone wants to be treated as the top 5-10% and I’d say making sure you are your bosses top person (and they know your salary goals) is important- whether you jump or stay.

like

Raises will also be influenced by where you are in the pay band compared to your peers potentially

You said first review…I would potentially argue that if you were hired during this crazy Covid time of inflated hiring wages that you’re being paid at the high end/potentially max of the salary band and it’s also highly likely you’re making a lot more than the employees who’ve been there for years. So if that’s all true, it could be fair tbh and if it’s not the case for your situation, you can always ask for more/look elsewhere if you’re not happy. You can always ask where you fall in the band…they will usually tell you (high, low, etc.), even though they won’t tell you what the band is.

Look for a new job

Been at CGI for 4 years now.. that is common here even if you exceed expectations. It will not change unless you are promoted, looking for a new job is the only way to counter this one unfortunately.

It's only common if you let it be common. See my post above. Be vocal with your director and ask for a raise. Build a case and state why you deserve it. Do it before October when Directors need to enter the annual increases. If you don't have a case, then I suggest asking to move to another project. Request a compensation increase especially if there are more responsibilities that come with the new role. I did this as a Senior Con at CGI and it was pretty easy how quickly I moved up in salary. DM me if you want to know more. I can't start chatting with anyone since I'm still a new guy around here.
