Do you have any strong relationships with leadership? If so, start by talking to those people.
On second thought, it’s probably time to get your 40% bump elsewhere.
Start applying elsewhere. Unless you have a very hard to replace skillset, leadership is typically not a fan of handing out 40% raises because someone else makes that much more than you because they joined when the market was hotter.

Just found out someone is getting hired in to my practice at one level below me, salary is $18k above mine.
That will always happen. There are pay bands across different levels and they will overlap.
What makes it awkward, is if that specific person reported to you.
One time we hired a part time consultant to join our team for client project. He was much much older so "more experienced". His
rate was probably double mine. What ended up happening was I basically trained and coached him for 6 months while he got paid ALOT (he was independent).
Then the project was over. So he got paid to do on the job training from a "junior team member". He had it good.
