Door to door isn’t as dead as people like to think I just hope you live in an even climate area because winter can be extremely hard if you live in a snowy area. Keep in mind the 20% rule. Only 20% of people that your try to reach will give you the time of the day and even less will buy what your selling. Find your 20%, I used to get excited when I got a no because I was that much closer to my 20%.
20% rule, got it! Thank you! I'm in Florida, so it's not the snow I have to worry about ☀️🥵
Polish up on your manners. Please and thank you, call everyone sir or miss unless they tell you to use their first name. Keep an upbeat demeanor. Ask lots of questions but remember that listening is most important. And the most important rule in sales, perseverance is everything. You’ll get told no a lot more than told yes. Just keep chugging along.
Amazing advice, thank you! Sounds like I'm going to have to get used to the word 'no' !
If there is a no soliciting sign on the door don't knock. Leave your card or flier in the door and move along. That little bit of respect may get you a future lead. If your sales manager tells you to ignore no soliciting signs, find a different sales job.
If selling directly: I would not knock.
I only knock on No Solicit Signs as I’m in construction/home sales so if I see damage I like to inform folks. But I just like my work and being able to help people with information and bringing awareness.
I’ve told plenty of folks I meant no disrespect but just wanted to let them know about something I noticed) and I’m not knocking on their door to sell. Plenty of us here have folks callback/follow up from that.
It's the man not the land. They are your friend not your customer.
Think about it like this. The man that hears no the most, will be the most successful.
Read people and read the room. You will not click with everyone. If you are not clicking, move on. YOU CANNOT FORCE SOMEONE TO BUY,
You got this.
There's an annual event called Door to Door con. Check out the last couple years list of speakers then find their podcasts. People are so used to everything online that some people get excited to see someone at their door that wants to talk to them. There are currently multiple hundreds of people in the US making millions a year on the doors.... Crush it Buddy!!!

Learn to build rapport; be conversational not just come off as a sales guy with a pitch.
May sound corny; but I like starting off with the weather and try to crack some humor about the heat (high 90’s-100’s now). If I notice something around that they may care about (nice worked on car, visible projects, dogs at the door). As someone who can struggle socially; I found this important and helpful.
And practice pitch. Think of objections/rebuttals you’ll commonly face and how to go past them. Where I’m at we do practice pitching an hour before going out and it helps so much.
Don't make me let out the pit bull on you like the Kerby salesman.
