Does anybody have any advice when applying to postings with many applicants and getting noticed? The company I am interested in is Figma, and though I reached out to a few technical recruiters after applying through LinkedIn, I am wondering if there might be something more I could do that maybe I’m not thinking about. Also along those lines, if anybody here works for figma I would love the chance to connect

What’s the issue? Do you not see yourself in the same light (as adding diversity)?
Not sure about this firm but in ours, you’re selected for merit first and any other factors second. If you didn’t interview as well or didn’t impress, you’d not have been hired. Thinking that you’re any less than because this comment was made speaks to insecurity & self-doubt which is absolutely normal (the baggage of being a minority).
Let me tell you this: Congratulations. You earned the spot. Now go dazzle.
OP...no one is hired, given a promotion, or raise based on one factor. It’s always a combination of factors. And if you were hired into a leadership position you had to impress numerous people, have the right mix of experience and education and probably be seen as someone they felt they could work with.
Also you don’t know what ethnicity all the other candidates were. I would bet it’s a mix of men, women, white, POC and maybe even sexuality. And out of all the candidates they chose you.
Be proud of getting the position and celebrate your success.
Oh wow... first time I hear someone complain about being able to take advantage of affirmative action. In life you have to take advantage of anything that is presented to you, so enjoy and please do not complain!
We are constantly reminded in this country that minorities have no opportunities and are treated badly, which is absolutely false. Minorities have advantages that others have not, and you are a prime example of it. So you should cherish that.

IBM continues to amaze with bottomless ignorance. Why assume my gender?
At least that guarantees job security! 😂
You could have been the best for for the job because of your qualifications AND still they see you as helpful from a diversity perspective. Either way, it was a dumb thing for the recruiter to say. Stand on your merits. You’re awesome!

As a white hiring manager who believes in the power of diverse voices, I’d offer that your dream company isn’t going to shoot themselves in the foot for diversity targets. They’re confident you will be successful, and make them more successful in turn. If your concerned, be explicit about the types of support and mentorship you’d like in the role. How they respond will tell a lot
A bigger concern would be: do you think you fit in with the team? That’s all that matters.
Otherwise, congrats.
Who cares, are you capable? Use them as much as they use you, you may have gotten there for other reasons but prove you belong. You obviously have things to offer beyond what the recruiter said
