I just made the switch to my new firm about 3 months ago and the partner and I have not gotten along. I’m a second year in lit, and most of his associates are more senior so he expects us to run point but during the interview I told him I still need a little mentoring. Now, every misstep I make he kills me for it. Should I make a move now or wait it out hoping it gets better?

Any advice for an experienced HR professional with SHRM-SCP? I was downsized from my last job as a VP of Admin wanted to go with Coordinator/Assistant structure. Been in HR for nearly 20 years with mostly generalist experience. Managed a function and/or people for most of that time. Senior level in my experience, but definitely not executive level. (Limited budgeting and PM experience.) Having a horrible time finding a new role! Getting a lot of interviews but no offers and getting discouraged.

How can I word an email follow-up with a recruiter to let them know that I am weighing my options in regard to job opportunities and would like to keep this one on the table? I don’t want to say it exactly like that because I feel that it sounds too direct. But it’s been a little over a week since my last (final) interview and I’ve had no follow up from them. Made it all the way to final interview rounds, got really amazing feedback the entire time… then last night I get an impersonal email from HR saying they made an offer to another candidate. I’m so shocked and devastated. I really thought I had it, and it was all based on how complimentary they were the entire time. Part of me wants to reach out to some of the folks I interviewed with to thank them again and ask for feedback and part of me wants to go to bed. Should I reach out…?

I’m currently applying for jobs, and I’ve received 2 offers. The company I like more wants to pay me 5K less than the other company. How can I bring up that I’m receiving a higher offer at another company to negotiate a higher offer with the company I prefer?

A big beverage client is “restructuring” the way they pay their agencies, to the tune of “we’ll pay you in 360 days..but if you want the $ sooner we’ll only pay you 80% of the fee.”

I’ve always had a full time job (10 years) and I recently took a job as a contractor/consultant for a bank. It’s a 40 hour week hourly job. Is this considered freelance? I read the other posts and I see people are double dipping taking on multiple contracts, is there other work out there that I can layer onto this job in the off hours? Can anyone recommend good language to add to a resume that highlights hands on case management? I’ve got 2yrs experience doing ID, so I’ve actively managed my own case load, taken and defended depos, minor mediations, minor court hearings. I draft all of my own motions (no substantive motion practice or trial exp though). Managing partner usually covers the more difficult oral arguments, mediations, expert depos, etc.

Legal discovery question for California: can we serve a plaintiff in a related case by depo notice or do we have to subpoena? We are defense counsel for case A. Case A and B were deemed related by the court. Cases have not been consolidated yet. There are 5 related cases. The Court ruled that depositions are to be global—meaning all counsel from the other cases can ask questions to the deponent. We want to depose Plaintiff in case B.

Most of my cases don't ever even reach litgation. However, I just settled my first case that I truly thought was going to trial. The feeling is odd. A mix between satisfaction and disappointed. We won but it was still odd.

As an associate, if you connect a partner to a contact for marketing purposes, and then that partner later gets a referral because of your connection, are you entitled to any sort of credit? Feel like as an associate I help bring in cases but I’m never actually given any credit for it. Is it wrong for me to think that way?
