Put nap time on your calendar!!! Just like you used to put pumping time on there, make sure you have a 30min breather for a walk or a power nap

I love this idea. There’s no need for me to be in back to back meetings the whole day

I always napped at the same time as my toddler. It was necessary! I chose not to fight with my toddler over things like shoes, putting toys away, eating more at meals, etc. Basically, if it wasn’t going to harm him, I let it go. Usually I could count on him doing what was needed when he realized I wasn’t going to put up a fight. (Like if he didn’t wear shoes, either he realized going outside hurt his feet or I would say we weren’t going to even leave the house after all, so he’d give in.) I’m still exhausted now that the baby is here, but I do have more energy to be firm about things to instill that discipline. That said … my toddler is currently playing with a puzzle naked from the waist down because he refused to put his pants back on after a pee and I just couldn’t be bothered to make him put them back on.

Hahaha toddlers, man. Hopefully you’ll have a take-no-shit woman come out of that toddler but for now I empathize.

1st trimester is survival mode for me - I let a lot of things slide.

I wish there was a way around it, this is my second pregnancy, and I would say my performance suffered both times. It’s just physically nearly impossible to keep up at your regular pace when you’re feeling nauseous/exhausted all the time. I am taking meds this time which has helped quite a bit - it might be worth phoning your OB and asking if it’s a possibility.

So what I’m hearing is I’m currently doing too much, and I just need to lay down. Thank you all!

Oh absolutely. I’m currently working from bed waiting on my take out with trash tv on in the background. Solidarity!

Ugh I was there a few months ago and it conveniently coincided almost perfectly with one of the most stressful and intense projects I’ve done in a long time. Tactical tips… 1. Leverage your partner as much as possible around the house… e.g., my husband would do bath time with the kids and then do the dishes while I basically lay on the couch like a whale all evening 2. Consider telling your immediate team / manager sooner rather than later…make it clear that you don’t feel well and are operating below normal capacity… ask for specific help if you need it (e.g., an extra resource). But be specific in what they can do to help you… an extra resource is a real thing. Just a generic “I can’t work as much” is harder for them to figure out what to do with 3. If relevant, talk to staffing and see if you can get on something internal focused or pro Bono for a few months 4. If nausea is an issue talk to doc about prescription or doing unisom/ b vitamin combo… eat frequently and figure out what helps you be less nauseous 5. As someone above said, block times for naps daily!

This is great. And I’m super thankful for my partner. I’ve skipped out on daycare pickup and bath time. I’m not ready to tell anybody yet - it’s still too soon, but I’m also very thankful for the people on my team who are just much more focused than I am right now.

Same, girl - I’m at 7 weeks. I *finally* started feeling better when I: - Napped or laid down as much as possible. This sometimes meant two naps a day plus an early bedtime. - Ate what I wanted, when I wanted - this has included a lot of healthy takeout but also two days in a row of Burger King. - **Eat first thing in the morning.** I ran from bed to meetings this AM and around 9 am started getting super nauseous again. Now I feel like I’m screwed for the entire day. Currently writing this from bed. At work, I’m relying on really great teams and trying to delegate/manage via phone/email/text from bed. I’m lucky that I have great partners to help pull the weight.

Hope you start feeling better soon!! I’ve discovered peanut butter Ritz crackers are bland but salty and filling enough that I can stomach them in the morning.

1. Rolled off of casework for a few weeks 2. Daniel Tiger and a freezer full of ice cream sandwiches for the moments when I couldn’t parent and dad had to work 3. Nap blocked on calendar

I went through a pretty rigorous interview process for a marketing project manager but ultimately wasn't given job. Though most of the feedback was positive, the other candidate had more direct experience with the job responsibilities (digital assets, social media, etc.) My job/company dabbles in digital but it's primarily traditional media. How do I again the experience if I'm limited by the type of work we do?
