I just opened a Fidelity HSA account so I can begin contributions. When I click on “Invest my future payroll contributions” I get an error screen that says the feature is only available for HSAs actively employed in an employer HSA relationship and not available for individual HSAs. Is this just an issue because I haven’t connected it to my payroll provider yet?

Additional context: my employer uses a different provider for HSAs, but I wanted more investing options, so went with Fidelity. I’m hoping to setup my contributions to be automatically invested each paycheck, but don’t want to get too far if that isn’t possible.

If you are not connected through payroll, how can you invest future payroll contributions? I assume once the account is funded with payroll contributions, you will be able use that function

I need to provide my account info to my payroll provider in order for them to begin contributions. So I had to setup the account first in order to get that information for them.

It’s for payroll deductions and as far as I know it’s only available if they are your employer’s HSA provider. You can’t just call your HR department and have them handle payroll deductions direct to any HSA provider.

You can use any HSA provider if you have an eligible plan but your company can’t just run payroll however you want.

I recommend you talk to your HR department. Especially if your employer would make any contribution on your behalf. If you don’t use their provider you are probably leaving money on the table.

Get the payroll contributions to a Fidelity checking account and then setup auto transfers from the checking account the HSA.

I have fidelity HSA.

Wouldn’t this make the contributions post-tax, though?

I live below my means, LCOL city, used car, max my 401K, save my bonuses, etc.

I am going to get a large bonus where after tax, I'll get a couple hundred thousand.

Should I prioritize pay off all credit cards or pay down half/some of the cards and use the rest for a house down payment?

I have a wealthfront account with ~30k that has made about 10% in 2 years. I am convinced that the market will crash this year so I have an inclination to pull that money out of the account. Nowadays we have access to so much more information that a crash can almost be anticipated IMO. Is it worth the tax to pull it out, sit until the crash and reinvest? I know this is not traditional, just curious about the bowls opinions

Anyone worried about layoffs?

The week of my wedding, my husband (PL SQL Developer 4 yoe) was laid off. That was a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I'm still bringing money in as a software engineer, but I'm looking for advice on how to support a partner who has been laid off. Ultimately I think we will be ok, but I know he's hurting / stressed / and could use a supportive partner.

What would you say is a reasonable number of cases per number of staff in a PI firm? What number is manageable and what is a number you would say is going into the realm of malpractice. For example for about 150 cases I know of a firm that has about 3 attorneys and 4 support staff. But some have 400-500 with 2 attorneys & 1 support staffer. What are your thoughts or how many cases is your firm currently handling?
