That is odd. I would think they would ask you to be done today but still pay you the two weeks. I guess they don't care about their brand reputation much cause some folks hearing this might not decide to give 2 weeks. Did HR tell you this or your team mgr/partner?

The reason you give two weeks is as a courtesy to your employer so that there's time to transition your work. If you don't have anything to transition I can see them saying thanks for the courtesy, transition is complete, you can leave now.

Why would you?

like

Two weeks notice is for them to find a replacement. You are quitting and you're on the beach making them no money. Why are you looking to get paid when you aren't contributing to the firm?

@OP - then leave and stop making a fuss about them making you leave?

OP - One day I hope you own a company and an unproductive employee comes to you and says " I could be unproductive for 3 more months, but have decided to quit, so please just pay me for 2 more weeks" Thank God you are gone. I'd hate to have staffed you.

Get laid off and also pocket that sweet severance package!!

Isn't that the difference between voluntarily leaving? I think it's a different conversation if they set the date

like

I don't know what to think. If you wanted to deal with the hassle, I think you could go up the chain to a partner or someone higher in HR with a copy of your letter and say that you expect to be paid for the two weeks since this was their choice not yours. Not sure if that will work or not. Like you said the other option might be to ghost out and see what happens,

like

Why would you get a say in this? You are employment at will. You always were. It is beyond me that you think you are entitled to 2 weeks of coating on their dime. By law they don't even have to pay out your PTO. Spoiled brat.

like

Sure deloitte10 - I could have just floated along for another few months not doing anything and collecting pay. My leaving early is a courtesy. Presumptuous ass.

like

@deloitte9 - duh. What do you think I was trying to do? Maybe I'll force their hand and collect unemployment benefits instead

like

Well I hope you get that employee that floats by for 3 months then - since you don't understand arbitrage opportunities you company would have never gotten off the ground

like

@OP - you are making no sense. You said you were trying to leave. Then they told you they don't need two weeks since you're unstaffed and now you're trying to get paid for two weeks. You "unemployed" yourself, why do you deserve benefits. Absolutely ridiculous logic.

like

Cool thanks 9,10,11 - you have inspired me to maximize the system as much as possible. Thanks to you your beloved Deloitte will be paying out my salary for until I get laid off and then unemployment benefits as well. Be proud

And that's enough for tonight. Good luck job searching! We won't miss you ;)

like

@OP, you resigned / quit. You gave 2 weeks notice... The company then chooses the last day you work.

Generally, companies will honor the two-week notice and pay the employee for the last two weeks even if the employer does not allow the employee to work during that time period. However, there is no federal law which requires the employer to pay employees or even allow them to work during that two-week notice period.

You also will have a difficult time filing for unemployment. If you quit, you must prove that you had a good reason to quit, and that: You can work now and are looking for a job. Quitting was the only reasonable thing to do.

In summary, you sound like just another entitled millennial. Learn how the world works. You're not special.

OP- some good points by posters and some are just harsh for no reason. The question should be where do you want to spend your emotional time and energy? Focused on the past or the future?

Because of multiple offers in hand and messy date of joining's I able to figure out which one to join and which one to leave.

HR's not responding to my mail to prepone my date of joining.

I'm not able to enjoy notice period also, anxious + constant fear of offer rejection.
