I just realized I may be getting charged extra fees because I have a Fidelity brokerage account but I regularly buy Vanguard ETFs (like VTI). In this scenario, am I charged a fee for every transaction (i.e. every time I buy more shares)? How do I find out how much the fees are?

You don’t pay fees to buy vanguard ETFs. You do get charged fees to buy vanguard mutual funds. Where do you see you are getting charged fees?

like

This is the correct answer. If you want to do mutual funds fidelity has several good low or no fee options. If you want vanguard you can buy the etf (for example VOO/VTI) or create an account there.

With MF you can set up an automatic purchase of $x and it will buy fractional shares. All transactions also take place at close of day for better or worse.

ETFs are basically the same except you can buy and sell during the day and you generally buy it by the share, not by the dollar.

Would love to hear arguments in favor contributing to 529 vs putting the same amount in an index find such as VIT.
I have a kid who is 10. I used to contribute to Vanguard 529 and have around 15k. Recently, stopped contributing and instead started buying index fund every month. My argument is that if I move to another country, I don’t want my money to be locked in a 529 account. Instead i have more control on my money in index fund and such.
