I just realized the company I am about to jump ship to doesn’t have a 401K match or any contribution programs. Would this be a deal breaker? The base salary is a 20% increase. Offer is due @ 5pm today

You’d have to do the math concerning how much you’re currently putting away at your current job and see if the 20% covers that. At the very least, take your current 401k, roll it into a personal account and contribute personally to it

When you say “personal account” are you referring to an IRA?

Honestly, most companies max out match around $4-5k. It looks good as a program but is fairly minor in reality.

That being said, it just means you need to be a bit more intentional in planning / taking advantage of other savings vehicles (IRA, HSA, backdoor, etc.)

What’s the overall compensation you’re leaving for? I ask because going from 80 to 96K would need more consideration than going from 150 to 180k.

Yeah the firm seems average, just a change from EY and a fully remote position. But that is a very good point to consider in my decision.

I had a 1st round interview last week and I didn’t love the sound of the job. It’s in higher ed. It would also be a 20k pay cut (105 -> 85). They want to do a final round with me this week.
