I just received an email from the company inviting me to permanently join - currently I work as a contractor and they’re inviting to join the team - the proposal is less than I make it as a contractor ( considering that I won’t be able to do overtime - and I do a lot - I’ll make 15% less than I’m making now). Also both amounts seems low compared to the industry. Any advice? Thank you!

What does their health insurance look like, PTO, etc,? Is there a 401k? Overall, is it a good package or is it lacking?


If they're lowballing you on salary etc, I am concerned. Perhaps tell them you are very flattered but your total income exceeds their offer by 15%, and you cannot leave your current situation for a paycut.

Contractors always make more because there are no benefits included. Take a look at the total comp package to compare. If you haven’t needed benefits (medical, etc) and you wouldn’t need it in the future, then it makes sense to stay as a contractor.

Thank you! I just emailed back the HR asking for at least the same income and letting them know that this amount is more compatible with what the industry is offering. Fingers crossed!

Don’t forget their costs for taxes and benefits to bring you on full time. That could be anywhere from 20-40k for a $115k salary.

Hello everyone, so I just recently starting my new job as a technical support engineer making 56k. Is that a fair value in the market? It’s my first job into the tech field and I accepted quickly because it was a huge bump to what I was making. However I just feel like maybe it was really “easy”. So I had a call with a with a recruiter two weeks ago and she asked for my salary range and I told her $120k-$150k she said she would submit me me at $140-$150 well the role was put on hold due to an acquisition. She has referred me for another role and we had the preliminary discussion but salary wasn’t mentioned should I assume that it’s the same salary range or should I inquire and is so how should I frame my inquiry?
