I’m a junior attorney at a boutique transactional firm. It’s a pretty small office and I only started in April. I’m having drinks with my mentor — a female partner — this week and I want to have a frank conversation about compensation. I know I’d benefit a lot from knowing her salary, how much she works, how much business development she does, what she brings in from profit sharing, etc. I always share this info when asked but still… Any suggestions on how to tactfully ask about this?

Have brought in small clients in the past but this one is a big one and huge for the group and the firm. I never thought being a mom would be this difficult. I am working full time, have an infant who wakes up every 3-4h and doesn't fall back asleep unless held in arms, am breastfeeding for medical reasons, and feel resentful and beyond tired all the time. I hate the fact that my body is so different to how it was before, that I don't have a sense of self any more, that I can't disconnect and take a break (and this is likely to not change for years to come). Is this normal or unfit to be a mom?

Go an offer from an early stage start-up for 7 thousand shares out of 2 mil (0.35% stake). How valuable is this in my offer? They want to keep my salary low in the short term until they get through Q4 and then come back to the negotiating table. Want to see if it is worth negotiating for more equity in exchange for less salary. They plan on doing Series A funding in Q3 and are considering increasing the number of shares. They project 1.8 milion in revenue 1 year after product launch (Nov 2022).
I had multiple mediations recently. I do management side employment law. Overall I’m walking away feeling like what the heck are we paying the mediators for? I’m tired of the mediators saying they don’t want to hear about the merits of the case. The merits are DIRECTLY tied to the amount of settlement authority I have. I feel like our clients are getting worked way more than the plaintiffs side. Also plaintiffs have followed up every single settlement with “can we get the funds before holiday?”
