Does anyone use a money system to help with classroom management? What do you think about it?
Has a fight ever broken out in your classroom with your students? Just had to break up my first one 🤦🏻♀️
Are you required to come into your building? I'm teaching vitrtually, but 2 days a week I'm required to come into my classroom.
What can you virtual gurus not live without? I am using Google Classroom with 4th graders. I love espark, EPIC, Flocabulary, Edpuzzle.
We as teachers are not supposed to tell our students what to think, we are supposed to teach our students how to think. To do this, we need to try our best to keep our political opinions and our personal thoughts on issues out of the classroom.
Is anyone using Social Emotional Learning and Mindfulness in their classroom or school wide? Reading a book (cover attached) and I have so many things to discuss!!!
Thinking back to when I was in school. What do teachers have to do now that they didn't 20-30 years ago? What do they need to provide now that they did not have to provide back then? I don't recall buying anything than pencils/paper/folders. We covered our used books with newspaper or paper bags Classrooms were simple, not every inch of wall space was covered in charts, etc. The districts/teachers supplied nothing extra. What changed that teachers have to spend their own $ now?
Cleaned out my room on Friday. Who else worries that they'll NEVER see their classrooms again?
Are bitmoji classrooms just for google classroom or can you use them in a different platform, too?
I use a Google Classroom/Google Meet for an after school writing club, but it's tough getting kids to share documents with a whole class just to try and get one person to discuss and workshop with them. Is there an effective way built in to these Google services?
Have any of your schools discussed the idea of live streaming your classroom? How would you feel about that?
What are best practices for classroom management/behavior when it comes to flexible seating? I find that students I’ve worked with in the past argue about who gets the 3 flexible seats in the room.
Just received a text from a team member stating two missionaries that traveled through Tokyo were in my classroom teaching (private school). Said they hired a company to deep clean tonight. Thoughts?
Hi there! I attended a virtual robotics workshop last week. I learned a lot and especially enjoyed connecting with others who were using robots in their classroom. I hope you join the discussion and we can find a way to support each other.
Not a good look MAS. Classroom gatherings 🧐
Does anyone remember using Philosophical Chairs as a strategy in the classroom? You know, the one where we teach kids to make a claim based on the evidence they've gathered, then express it in a respectful manner, followed by hearing what the other side has to say, listening with ears open to the facts presented and being prepared to change their mind should they hear compelling evidence to do so? I certainly hope they cling to that rather than mimicking the actions of their predecessors. 🤦♀️
I teach in a behavior focused classroom and my goal is to help students regulate their emotions and function in a general education classroom. Any tips for getting those gen ed teachers on board?
How do you set up your classroom? What can you tell me about how often you use instruments? What do you do to make them accessible? Thanks so much.
Hello London folk. There’s a lot of great chat about diversity in adland on fishbowl, but it’s all very US based. So I’ve just started a bowl on diversity in London specifically - 9qo8f
When I was a kid one of my biggest worries about adulthood was avoiding quicksand. I'm so relieved that it worked out well. 😂😂😂
Has anyone else felt physically sick from stress/overwork? I’d been dizzy, with headaches and stomach pain for weeks, and had debilitating chest pain today (couldn’t sit up) Went to the doc last week and bloodwork is normal; been doing counseling but that still hasn’t helped.
Best exit opp you've seen a partner take ?
Any advice for when a client contact just straight up hates you and calls you out in front of the entire team? Trying to adapt to their working style but it doesn’t seem to help things
Simple question hopefully.. do you prescribe albuterol or duonebs for stable outpatient covid patients?
Should I have been a quant? Was a USAMO level math competitor as a kid, but fell out of that world after being sick of it all. After two years of aligning logos and models at an IB, I’m in an enviable place — but still earning less than some of my former peers who’re at Citadel and Jane Street, with worse hours. I like the work I do now, but it’s kind of frustrating that I’m never really using the skills I was once world class at. Is the grass actually greener?
A recruiter pushed me really hard to take an interview but I really just wasn’t that interested in the firm. When I said that I wasn’t sold and wouldn’t be interviewing, they became upset and called me unprofessional, and name dropped my managing partner saying that they expected better from my firm. I was like, it’s quite rich to bring up my partners when you’re literally poaching me from them. Was I needlessly nasty?
Spinoff question... I know FMLA technically only covers you if you've worked for 12 months at your employer but has anyone actually had their employer say "sorry you we only here for 10 months so you can take your two weeks of accrued vacation, after that we'll expect you back." ? Since FMLA is unpaid anyway, I would imagine most employers would at least let you have unpaid time off.
Freelancers - what are you charging these days? Hourly Rate / Years of experience / Area of Expertise
How long do you have to be at your company to qualify for their maternity / paternity leave policy?
I’ve been totally buried in work for the last 2.5ish months and it’s taken a toll on me. I’m feeling very burned out, to the point where my productivity has tapered off over the past two weeks and I’m no longer able to bill the hours I want. I genuinely try, but at a certain point each day (usually around 6.5 hours) I just feel like I can’t do it anymore. My family is urging me to take PTO to recharge, but I’m too scared about losing more hours to actually do it. Does anyone have any advice?
Worst interview experience ever?
