I just snapped on someone cause they wouldn't shut up. Then they cried 😅😅 How do you deal with a very talkative colleague? 😅

Not snapping at them is usually a good idea.

likefunny

just let them know you've got tons of shit to work on and can't talk right now

like

1) Put in earphones/headphones
2) Say you are busy
3) Change desks/office
4) Work from home
5) Say you don't want to talk

If neither of those work, just spit in their mouth next time they open it. Works like a charm 🤷🏿‍♂️

very funny but… don’t actually do that because it’s assault

Earphone, headphones, ear plugs.
Talk to manager
Explain your boundaries

like

In a calm and friendly tone I usually let them know I’m very busy and I’m trying to get things done and I’ll catch up with them later. That works most of the time.

like

In my book, everyone is allowed to get annoyed every once in awhile, but you should apologize.

In terms of dealing with a difficult coworker, unless you are their manager it is not your place to correct their behavior (unless it is a friendly warning if their behavior is hurting their reputation at the company). If possible, discuss it with your supervisor, letting them know that their behavior is impacting your ability to get your work done. That should bring it to their attention and perhaps lead to a discussion between the two of them, not involving you.

Were they Gen Z?

like

If you cannot tell them directly that you cannot talk, you can always excuse yourself with “I need to go. See you later.”

Then go to the bathroom or grab a drink or take a short walk outside.

Eat lots of garlic. Seriously though, just explain that you need time to concentrate during certain hours.

funny

It also helps to realize that everyone's human. Talk to them and explain that their talking is distracting to you. If explained well, they'll understand. But dont let it get to a point where you're"snapping" at someone enough to make them cry. That's usually means your reaction was at fault too.

They cried? Ha.

I just got promoted, compensation wasn’t what I expected but I’m not mad about..

However I was already planning on leaving consulting for a bit and go back to industry. Kind of just posting to vent but a little upset not sure if I should have been upfront that I don’t know what I’m doing. Been in FDD for about 4 months and only did about 2 weeks of deals near the beginning just ad hoc tasks and didn’t really run anything myself. Then after about two months on the bench I start sharing a deal with a senior who is now gone on vacation. Is there a corporate way to bring up to senior leaders that an IC is causing issues across multiple teams because they are demanding and also doesn’t collaborate well? The IC gives vague “direction” then says they are too busy to clarify. They also refuse to use our project management/ collaboration tools.

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). Someone told me today that they just assume I’m not interested because I always seem to “run” but I’m not sure how to bring up problems/feelings otherwise. How do you approach these hard questions?

Hi. People Manager here. I've been one for 12 years now and I encourage my team to not be "yes" people. At this time, it feels like my manager wants me and my team to be yes people for her. How do I deal with this? I've never been a yes person and I don't preach this to my reports. I don't know what to do. Help?

What is the advice on what feedback to leave for a peer who really sucks at everything y'all have worked together on? It's about the time where everyone on my team requests feedback from each other and I'm nervous for it coming up. My manager knows that everything I've worked w her on I end up doing 90% of the work when it's meant to be split so it is a known issue. We're both at level 3 so are genuinely peers. She seems like a nice person but i have 0 positive work feedback tbh
