Happens to everyone. Well everyone but sociopaths. Forcing yourself just makes it worse. Helps to remind yourself that the agency decided to open up their very tightly monitored wallet because the stuff you did up to now excited them! Take a moment to chill. Start dumping everything out of your head. It’s the only way you’ll rebuild your faith in yourself.
Totally and you’re not alone. Let’s unpack what’s happening beneath the surface so you can understand what is happening and pull yourself out of toxic self-editing mode.
- You have a nervous system. Your nervous system is kind of like a big brother/big sister. It’s there to protect you and keep you safe.
- You’ve just started a new job. Any time we do something new or unfamiliar, our nervous system acts up and triggers our flight/fight/freeze/fawn response. Your body is flooded with all sorts of chemicals (adrenaline, cortisol, etc) and it can FEEL like you are in real danger, but that is not what’s happening. Your nervous system is just doing it’s job which is to keep you safe.
- There is absolutely nothing wrong with you. Imposter syndrome is not an identity. It’s a response from your nervous system based on so many factors we have no control over (trauma, environment, history, biology, diet, etc.)
Here are a few peeps to check out that can help you understand more about this all:

Go easy on yourself, it’s all going to be okay 😊
I LOVE Mastin Kipp! And to OP — you’re going to be great. Don’t forget how much you had to talk about your skill set and all the great things things about you to get this new role, and how far you’ve come to get to where you are. You got this 💜

Antidepressants helped me tons. I'm freelance so I used to being new all the time.
I like to remind myself: "This job does not define me." Seems to help.
It’s hard to read the labels of the jars we’re in, so trust their assessment of your fit for their business vs your own perspective which is likely biased toward seeing flaws vs strengths, just like most humans.
