Drop mic when you get back. Doesn't matter your reason, you want to pursue another opportunity. That could be a job or more time with your family.
If you tell them before you come back theyll make you lay back your FMLA or whatever parental leave you’re getting. Wait until your first day back.
Give it a week or two after you come back... I think either the current employer or the new opportunity will understand coming back from leave and etc.
It depends how honest you want to be and whether you want to maintain a good relationship with your team and coworkers at your current company.
People often forget about the other people that can be affected by decisions like these - sometimes it takes a lot of time to replace great members so can be nice to give them the benefit of the doubt.
