Correctly done weight training will help you look way better. Google something ong the lines of "same weight more muscle" and you'll see that those people look way better. Same goes for "same weight less fat", which will look much better if you maintain muscle than if you just lose bodyweight overall with a mix of muscle and fat.
I'd focus more on keeping your heart rate up during weight training and really only using pure cardio as an addition, not a substitute.
Do you need suggestions of workouts? Or what's your actual ask? Do you actually want to do cardio primarily (in which case feel free to do it, of course) or is the reason you're looking to do cardio because you believe itll help you get closer to your goals?
If all you want is a flat stomach I would at least do HIIT cardio instead of long distance low intensity, then you can increase the calories burned while recovering and it may build a little bit of muscle as well to help increase your daily caloric requirements
Building muscle will increase your BMR (The amount of calories your body requires to function). So, doing light weight and toning exercises in moderation should help you slowly build up muscle too.
Is there a reason you are going for low/no muscle gains?
You really can’t overdo weights at first. In college, I tried working out twice and destroyed my legs so much with too much weight and never kept with it. Once I met a reasonable workout partner (my bf), weights were totally fine
That muscle soreness goes away after 2 weeks of consistently lifting. If your end goal is to lose lbs for the sake of losing lbs then just diet and cardio will work, but if your goal is to look good naked then you will want to do weights as well, no one in the history of lifting weights has accidentally gotten too big, it's just not how it works. If you only do cardio and diet, you will run a very real risk of being skinny fat by the end of your journey (google it if you are unaware).
Was skinny fat in HS…those were the days
