Organization is critical for classroom management. Try assembling units into Google Slides with links to ppts, activities, etc. Color code them according to the rainbow: Unit 1 red, Unit 2 orange etc. It takes a minute at first but the payoff is a one click upload for next year! PS I use the same color code system with felt tip pens to grade my classes: 1st hr red, 2nd hr orange etc.
Are calm bottles useful in your classroom
After losing almost half of my lunch period just heating up my food, I put a crockpot in my classroom. We have 1 microwave for 9 teachers. It is not one of those small kind but an actual crock pot. Anyone else do something similar just to give yourself some time to actually chew?
Using this thread to build a tool-kit of strategies that helped transform my classroom and school community. I’ll be dropping resources here throughout the day. Feel free to comment and share yours 🛠
How do you integrate mindfulness in your classroom? Have you ever experienced a negative reaction from parents or administration?
What are some of your favorite beginning of the year activities for creating a sense of community in your classroom?
So my ISD split me between a HS and a MS that recently reopened. I'm the only MS band director. The MS decided, without consulting me, to use the band hall as a classroom and after school enrichment "daycare". AKA added desks and tables. How do I approach this? I feel it is not OK in the slightest. I feel the band hall should reflect the goals, discipline, and culture of the program. Not as an empty classroom.

I would love to start teaching and learning outside the classroom walls. I would like to start working with middle school U.S. SS classes in other parts of the US. I'm in NJ, let me know if interested
tomorrow I begin my first teaching job, it is first grade and I have had no time to prep. School started almost 2 weeks ago I need ideas for classroom management and math centers. Any help?
Always a student. This helps me relate to my own. Mistakes. Confusion. Oopsies like giving the wrong answer when we KNOW it. Learning keeps me off any high horse because sure as the world I’d otherwise get knocked down. We are all students in our classrooms. An indirect bonus is that the connection we make by remembering what it’s like to be a student helps us manage the class better. We relate. We admit. We connect.
I need to talk with a teacher about inappropriate behavior some parents are complaining that she has in the classroom. How do I approach this without accusing her or making her feel ambushed?
If you wold like some assistance with classroom management or even managing your owe children, check this out this resource.
I just got brand new iPads for my classroom and need to find some apps that are appropriate for my prek students. We just went back to remote learning today. Does anyone have app suggestions?
Split classes take away joy! We have 6-7 classes at each grade level and they split 1-2 into the remaining 5 so we can have a 5 day schedule. Big classes plus the classroom culture homeroom teachers work so hard to achieve are ruined. Advice? (Plus we are told to "not be negative" by admin.)
Does anyone use Wit and Wisdom in their classroom, and have any advice? What are the pros and cons? We will be rolling it out in August.
Hello all, just joined. I use a lot of ed tech in my classroom and would love to connect and exchange ideas with others.
At what point do you feel AI and machine learning will fully automate marketing to the point of only needing a creative and copy team to feed it? I give it 5 years....
What’s the difference between a sales engineer and you’re typical SDR? I have an opportunity to get free sales engineer training at my job, which would qualify me for a potential position as a sales engineer.
Looking to transition into an HR leadership position. 17+ years experience in running a startup managing 50-100 people (15 years) and handled all facets of hiring, firing, compensation, negotiation, training and employee relations. Responsibilities also include other non HR functions such as business dev., client relations and expansion, logistics. Currently studying for the SPHR and plan to take the GPHR as well. Thoughts on difficulty of moving into an HR leadership role?
Is a certificate in product management helpful in learning the basics of PM if you’ve never done it as well as helping get on more recruiter’s radars on LinkedIn?

When is the EY split happening? I am planning to resign. Should I resign now or after the split? Is there even a connection between resigning and split in view of company's reputation??
If you or someone you know is hiring for an Internal communications lead focused on employee engagement, I’d love a connection.
I decided to leave my company without a new role lined up to focus on finding the right fit. I’ve been lucky to land roles where I wanted to stay for years, but unfortunately the company culture didn't align with my values and was not the right fit.
I help leaders and teams inform, inspire and connect with their employees.

My district (like so many) is struggling to recruit substitutes and I work at a small site where we don't have staggered preps so teachers can't cover each other's classes. I put on a sub request a while back so that I could take this Thursday for religious observance, but of course no one has picked the job up. I am not someone who takes a lot of personal days (last year this one day was the only day I took all year). Do I leave my admin to deal with the problem or give up and go in?
Every time I take a day off, one of my 2 classes absolutely go crazy and run over the substitute. I know it only about 50% of the students that participate. I am a 5th grade teacher. Substitutes don’t usually leave an itemized complaint, my kiddos tell me. Any ideas on how to handle this?
I HAVE to buy one of these!
I just joined Fishbowl recently because I know a lot of my teachers are struggling this year. So let me ask you.. do you feel that you can be honest with your principal about what you need and your struggles? How do I make my teachers feel safe about being honest and not fearing judgment? (I'm not out to "get them" or fire them).
I'm thinking aboout going back to school for my Masters degree. After doing some research, I'm realizing there are A TON of options for pursuing a Master of Education. I'm trying to figure out how to narrow down programs, and what's right for me.
Took today off since my husband and I were both throwing up yesterday, but I have office staff texting me if I can come in. Meanwhile, I had a sub pick up my job. And knowing I have an hour commute?
We just had a lockdown drill, and I was reprimanded for not being between my students and the door. This got me thinking - I hate to say it, but I would not take a bullet for my students. Maybe I’m in the wrong profession.
Has anyone’s district gone through the Marzano “High Reliability Schools” program? I was just looking through the agenda for my district’s next board meeting, and the consent to purchase this is on the agenda. What are some of the main points of this program? What types of actions or changes do they support or promote? I’m just interested in what types of changes our district admin may be trying to make. Thanks!

We’ve just adopted the Wit & Wisdom reading curriculum in my district. I am wondering what other teachers have thought about this program. Pros? Cons? Ideas on how to successfully implement?
I live in Wisconsin and winters are very cold here. Not all of our children have the proper attire for outdoor recess. Any ideas for resources?
We have an autistic non-verbal child in my school who is destructive. He tore my room apart last year (I do not have him as a student. He got into my room during class change.)
We can’t leave our doors open.
We can’t let the kids in the hall if he is in the hall.
He has his own teacher and 2 aides.
