Lighthouse is legit. We've used them to support Strategy engagements. Produced some really amazing analyses and products for our client.
Btw, My PhD is in Ops Research where I specialized in creating linear programming optimization models to reduce air traffic congestion.
D&A within MC is supposed to be the client facing advisor (running engagements), where Lighthouse provides internal support. In practice they do a lot of the same things (though it's true that Lighthouse is where the PhDs are hired, which is unique). We have to fix the confusion with go to market messaging this year.
Hi OP- I'm part of the Data Analytics Lighthouse
We're a 250 person client facing practice. Internally we are known as the Lighthouse bc we are revamping entire internal engagements teams to expand the scope of work and automate the labor on those jobs. We also have a lot of stand alone work. This year we built an App for paramedics that returns the optimal hospital to take a patient to based on diagnosis, drivetime and a statistical estimation of wait times in the ER using 4 machine learning models. It's being used by a client right now. About 60% of our practice is Phds and 30% Masters Degrees. Ask me almost anything!
SA1- Different- Lighthouse is an internal KPMG branding name for the 'center of excellence' which stands alone from MC. Our practice builds pure straight up mathematical models to optimize client problems, new tech for the existing practices and we do pure research and development into analytics. We have consultants, big data engineers, statistical math modelers and software engineers. Normally other practices bring us in to solve the really gnarly problems.

It's the same stuff at all big 4. I doubt they are selling much
We're also hiring and growing like crazy if anybody wants to drop a burner.
Pretty intense. Most people come in highly technically competent, but we do a lot of collaboration and project sharing to learn what we don't know. The coolest lunch and learn we've ever had was finding mathematical or programmatic embedded edges in games and use if those strategies to try to beat other players. Sounds stupid, but complex client problems are all about breaking down a system into its parts and then figuring out how to beat it programmatically from multiple angles. More than once a resource allocation strategy we cooked up to solve a game actually was the basis to a million dollar client improvement. 😂 it's not all fun and games though, just one neat example.
Public information- go look it up. There’s value in productizing what a consulting team does to scale up and or automate engagement scope and reduce hours. Then take that value added and sell it across the industry. A typical consultant works on something one time and that hour is gone forever- the value of programming is that all that work is immortalized in a reusable process, just change the inputs, tweak the code and you’re good to go.
Yes. KPMG Advisory Digital Enablement does too. Good stuff

Looking online - what's the difference between lighthouse and the data and analytics but in MC? Synonymous?
Then what is data and analytics in MC?
I'm not really sure what it's about. But they do database and SQL, and I don't know how deep into analytics they go. Lighthouse stands outside of the Advisory practice so we aren't MC.
