I kind of enjoy, and find it motivating, to work with managers/superiors that are extremely condescending on both a personal and professional level. But at the same time it’s pretty exhausting and think it might be unhealthy for me. Is that normal and the culture on your engagement teams?

You can work with managers who challenge you without being condescending - probably not healthy

I had the benefit of working with a business psychologist a couple years ago. Process involved some brutal upward feedback from those that worked with me. One common theme was that I could come across as brusque and condescending at times. I blame this in part on my Big 4 upbringing. I have made some conscious changes in the ways I interact with folks and have since received more positive feedback from them. Take away, this kind of negative behavior has collateral damage in terms of morale and turnover. It can and should be changed and not accepted as the norm of our industry.

like

Thank you for sharing your experience! That sounds like it was really difficult process but that is nice to hear that you have kept an open item to the feedback. Have you seen any of this behavior in your colleagues and have you been able to take any action in helping them shift their work style? I think I’ve just normalized this type of behavior as providing upward feedback from a senior associate does not seem to resonate

I’m only a little condescending - I’ll have to work on that 😜

Would recommend getting some therapy to see if you can understand the underlying reason for finding this motivating

That’s a good idea. Kinda embarrassed I haven’t thought of that haha

You kinky

Report them anonymously, nobody should be condescending especially when there is a whole group dedicated to culture and fixing the toxic environment that this behavior creates.

Are you a female?

Nah, I’m a guy
