I know birthday gifts are supposed to be personal, but I can't think of anything for my dad's 56th! The dude has everything. Any ideas or inspirations?

Spend some QT with him...priceless!

like

Make him a deck that's all about him...I'm being completely serious. It had a roadmap, a "voice of the customer" type slide, pictures of you and your family...it can help him finally understand what you do (kinda). I'd also get him a bottle of scotch if that's his thing. The deck thing is just something for him to laugh at.

Surprise him for his bday!

Hmm that's not a bad idea at all, EY1 - thanks. I'm in Cali and my parents have never been to Hawaii. I'll look into surprising them with an all expense paid trip there when they come visit.

like

Get him a nice safety razor with some good shaving cream, with a brush and shaving mug

like

D2, he's a C-level exec for one of the F500s. He complains about consultants enough haha and has seen enough decks. But I might steal that idea and out it in a different comm vehicle, in addition to the scotch as well as the shaving kit from KPMG1

like

Thanks D1, I'll look into that. EY1, we live a 15 hr plane ride away from each other. Each moment is a QT moment

like

Pwc1, I was going to do that, bought a ticket and all. Then mom called me yesterday and told me they were going to come visit me for the week of his birthday.

like

I'm big on buying my parents "experiences". Concert tickets, rounds of golf, tickets to see David Sedaris, etc.

like

Get him a subscription to a magazine or an activity or a club. Throw in some blu ray of old classic movies etc.

like

Point taken 😉 How about go on vacay or a stacay together? Send him a coupon for all expense paid trip with you. Did something similar for my in-laws and they loved it.

like

One of my partners got a deck for her birthday and loved it. Must admit, the SO did a great job!

like

Make him eat a blue pill and then take him to a strip club ;)

like

But if he takes the blue pill, won't he just wake up in the matrix?

Nevermind....just saw your update ^

Nice!

New Apple TV - awesome toy

Does your dad like cooking? Get him a gas / wood smoker for BBQ. My dad got one a few years ago and loves that thing. Otherwise get him something related to his hobbies that you could also get in on, like golf clubs. The best gifts are ones you can add to over time to promote the hobby and makes easy gift giving, cooking = new appliances and books, golf = new clubs or golf related trips, alcohol = distillery trips or nice bottles, cigars = cigars, humidors, etc.

I have a bachelor's in Architecture from the university of DC and I have 5 years of experience but I've been out of the game since 2019 due to unfortunate life events. I've been working in customer service recently and I know that I could be making at least twice more in my field. I lost everything including my portfolio and I don't want to have to start over. Does anyone know of a firm that would hire (remotely) or have suggestions?

I have an offer from Capgemini and I have my H1-B transfer approved. After I resigned and told my manager about it, asked me if I wanted to stay back. Initially I said no, but agreed to stay if they match. today told me they ready to match the hike with what I'm getting there over 30%. I'm just in a mix. Capgemini has spent money on me filling transfer petition and premium and I'll be feeling guilty to ditch them. At the same time my manager in current company has done everything. Wat shud I do @

Not trying to grass-is-always-greener myself out of a good thing and I'm in no rush to leave, but how do I know when it's time to take advantage of other opportunities?
