I just want to say that I am so sorry the start of your career has been during the Covid-19 nightmare. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to try to adjust to a corporate world never having met your co-workers in person and not getting a chance to network organically. I don't really have advice for you beyond that I'm sympathetic to your position and hope things get better for you soon. Know you're not the only one struggling- even seasoned consultants are finding things challenging.

I am in your exact position. I even interned with the company Summer 19 and I am so so lost. You’re not alone

Hey! I felt the exact way same way when I started in Oct. Felt like I was doing nothing while everyone else was moving on but a) ppl like to say they're busier than they actually are and b) I've found some success in this by being able to position that feeling as a motivating factor to do more. Happy to chat if you'd like! We're both just starting our careers so can bounce tips back and forth 😄

Try letting some seniors or staffing manager know that you have bandwidth and really want to get involved in some work. That's what I did and landed myself on a project and made a great impression as someone who likes to stay busy in doing that!

What group are you in

There has to be someone in your group that is overwhelmed with work and could use some help. This is generic advice, but do your best to raise your hand and volunteer - the best way to learn is to get put on a project with someone willing to show you the ropes and effectively delegate some work. Especially during wfh, I can't think of a better way to meet new people at your company and get noticed.

I’m sure there is I’ve just kinda been thrown around. I talk to one manager and she sends me to another who sends me to another who sends me back to the first one

Network with new people around the firm, maybe ask about an industry that you didn't think would be as interesting previously. There's plenty of work to be picked up, just takes a little bit of leg work to get your name out there

Was in a class last week with people of all different levels so have been sending out some emails so hopefully they will connect with me

Go do a SOX engagement. Great learning opportunity

If you have any content knowledge in a specific sector such as life sciences or technology that is useful, make sure leaders know this. In some firms there is a lack of any content knowledge at the associate level because of the “generalist” model and leaders have to teach.

Am I crazy to be seriously considering doing this? Single M 🐠, 26.
