Not sure what state you are in but in mine we all contribute to disability insurance fund every pay period. State disability through my psychiatrist’s attestation ended up paying at or near the same amount that my firm was paying me(and it’s not taxable income…!). I’m not sure what negative impact state disability has had on my record or rapport with the firm but I would recommend looking into it… it’s good up to one year, minus one week where you are ineligible, and was one of the best decisions I’ve made(rather than just quitting my firm).

I’m in the same boat, I feel you. I took a small amount of time (that I could afford) and it just wasn’t enough. My doctor supports it, but there’s the factor of keeping finances afloat as well as the stress of leaving my team. I found out our “amazing benefits” have no coverage for any pre-existing conditions such as mental health, aside from being able to see a professional.
Just remember that your health is vitally important. I hope that things come together for you!
