Women In Consulting

I know I only want to do this job for two years for multiple reasons. I know many people have the same objective. How do you stay motivated? I sometimes find it hard knowing my end game

I actually find it easier to stay motivated with a clear end time. Like “yes this lifestyle sucks, or the work is not what I am interested in, but as I will be here for only X more weeks/months. there are some unique things about this experience which I won’t have after time X, so let me maximize that. If nothing else i might learn something obscure about an industry or how an organization works that makes for an interesting story at cocktail parties.”

There are should be things that make you happy in this job (colleagues, learning, etc) - focus on those. If nothing here makes you happy, probably not worth suffering and throwing out two years of your life... What do you want to get out of these two years, except a line in a CV? Try finding something that drives you...

I got great advice about this from a mentor. Basically, as an ex-consultant, there will be two things a future employer expects you can do: 1) build a model, and 2) put you in front of clients and be able to deliver. So maximise your two years here by ensuring you get experience in both those areas. My personal approach, as someone suggested above, is to then say: what else do I want to get out of this, based on what exit opportunities I might be interested in? e.g. maybe you want to exit to industry - prioritise getting experience there. Want to found a start-up? Get digital or VC experience. It’s important to clarify your priorities so you can make them clear (and make trade-offs to achieve them) to staffing.

New to investing so maybe a naive question - should I invest in pre-tax 401k or Roth 401k? Company does not match contributions, if it matters.

Thinking of the following (all optional, of course). Useful? Suggestions for other fields? Title Years of PM Experience Years in Role Salary Certifications Company Number of Employees

401k Loan. Say you borrow 30k and you change jobs with 20k left. You roll your 401k into your next employers program which also allows 401k loan. Can you borrow 20k from it and settle the first?
