Happy Wednesday! I am trying to plan with our AP and climate lead on what we can do in distance learning as a school wide event. I suggested we still host our multicultural club assemblies on zoom for the school. Anyone have experience with zoom assemblies to promote a positive climate in DL? Thanks!
I was in NYC over the weekend and stopped by the Blancpain boutique to try this on. It’s a lovely watch - just waiting for a milestone birthday to pull the trigger.

Is it normal for a recruiter to contact you via text asking for time to schedule a phone call? I applied on LinkedIn easy apply and uploaded my resume which has my email and phone number. Just curious if this is the new normal!

Hello all, I would like some insight. I work for a small immigration firm and I focus mostly on U-visas and waivers. I get paid 22/hr currently. I know it’s on the low end but I have stayed because of the immense flexibility as I have two little ones. However, the attorney recently spoke to me about wanting to make me his primary paralegal, and wants me to start training on court and asylum cases, on top of what I already do. I haven’t explicitly accepted yet but I would like some advice for…

Do you have any idea how many days of notice period you have to serve if you resign in the last month of probation period? Will it be 1 month ( which is applicable during probation) or it will be 3 months ( which is applicable post probation). @TCS @Infosys @IBM @Wipro @Acceture
I have been approached with an opportunity at JP Morgan Chase for their private client advisor role. The book is about 30M all in. I am currently an experienced hybrid asset manager wholesaler and have experience in advising as well. Curious about the opportunity with JPM and if it’s worth it. I currently make about 160k and if JPM would give me a high draw for the first 3 years to build, and if it’s feasible to sustain that 160+ there.
Dear long term staying managers in same company, plz switch jobs or do not have ego for ur juniors asking more than ur CTC.. Do biglaw paralegals all get paid hourly with overtime? I always feel bad about asking for late-night paralegal help for filings, but my sense is that they’re all eager to do it, presumably for an OT rate.
It just happens that this week I spent a fair amount of time negotiating with clients/potential clients on legal fees - and it is exhausting. I am less than 2 years in private practice...

How do bankruptcy attorneys get paid? Like, aside from flat fee rates, how is it possible that some bankruptcy attorneys make such good money when their clients are obviously struggling?
I have practiced law for several years and still struggle with the feast-or-famine nature of my practice. (Sudden rush of client outreach, many emergencies, then … nothing). A famine week might be 3-4 billable hours/day. My practice area does not have a predictable annual cycle, like “year end” or “tax day.” Any tips from other attorneys for how to recognize, predict, and/or even out these periods?

That moment when your "smart" plan to boost your hours this month by working the Labor Day weekend (thus turning down all the fun plans your friends made) becomes sitting on your hands & feeling dumb because all the partners are too busy to delegate anything. The worst kind of "off" day is one you planned to /wanted to work, but there's no billable work...

I am interested in moving to another state and realized that this state has one of the most restrictive reciprocity rules in the country. I've passed multiple bar exams. However, I won't get any credit for time I worked in CA because CA isn't reciprocal. I swore I'd never take another bar after taking CA - and now I have to take another exam if we move. I worked in big law in CA for two years and get no credit! Yet the exam has been waived for new grads for COVID. It sure limits our move.
Is anyone hiring post-fed clerkship litigation associates in NY or DC right now? Seems like the headcount at every biglaw and boutique firm is being siphoned off to corporate positions...
How do you get better at contract negotiations? (I’m a 4th yr. in commercial real estate) I feel like I’m generally good at pulling together an initial draft of an agreement (ex PSAs)...but I struggle when comments come back. Specifically, I struggle with reading newly proposed language & deciding what stays, what goes, & what needs to be tweaked. Are there books I can read (or CLEs I can watch) to get better at this?
Seeking advice: I’ve worked 2 years in litigation (non L&E) and want to transfer in-house and do L&E. How do I get there?
Weird question- or confessional (unsure tbh)- do any of you ever play hooky? I billed all weekend (7 year atty in ID) and today is wicked weather in the south so I’m “wfh” but not really. I didn’t have time for Sunday scaries but now I’m having Monday guilts, as I cope by watching my dogs sleep and watch the GOT prequel out of the corner of my eye while going through emails. It’s not a monthly thing but I’m just tired. Thinking it speaks to my immaturity and hopefully not my job trajectory?
