Student grades
Why do we needs all these tests anyway? Someone took a study of test around the world. The average US student will take over 105 yest during his time in school. Students in Finland, which is ranked #1 in tbe world o
In education, takes 2 tests. They take one test when you first enter school and 1 just before you graduate. What dies that say? You figure it out.
wow! 2 tests! That sounds great, but then they must be super high stakes tests.
Project based learning is a good way to measure content knowledge and progress as opposed to high stakes testing.
This is an interesting question.
Grades are not the way to go. Right now they are too subjective. I knew a teacher who gave extra credit points because they wore red to school for team days or because they wore a NJ Devils shirt because they were discussing the NJ devil. Kids hade averages of 106%!
If grades are truly to be a measure of student learning, these grades were totally inaccurate.
Portfolios are interesting. This tracks progress over time, and not just a one day snapshot. This is the “backup” to the standardized test but maybe IT should be the “standard”. Pun intended.
