Thank you all for your patience. I do appreciate it. It turns out having a side project while running multiple proposals is a trifle challenging. That said. I’m posting a first subset of the rawish data. In all close to 500 people took the survey, but a majority were from the Big Four. Here is the data from Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PWC. I had a verbal offer last Monday to start on the 15th, at that time if I gave notice it would have been two weeks. but I didn’t get a written offer until a Wednesday and thus gave notice on Thursday that expires on the 12th. I gave 6 days notice. Do I feel douchey? Yeah a little bit. But at the end of the day, you have to do what’s best for you.
New gig starts on Monday and then I’ll dox myself here on Fishbowl.
I mean you don't *need* to give any notice if your contract is at-will (most in the US). It's more of a courtesy. I know my firm's handbook says it is expected to "maintain good standing" (e.g. if you want to boomerang, want references).
I think it just depends on your case, are you on the bench or in the middle of the project? How essential are you? It's ultimately up to you.
I gave 1.5 weeks and no one was mad. Just don't leave your teams in a shitty spot and you'll be fine.
