I'm working 12+ hours a day deadline-to-deadline. All the work I touch is garbage social media with no budget. I find myself having to fight to get other depts to do their jobs adequately, and frequently find myself having to build project plans myself or instruct account people on how to push back on clients when they don't get us what we need on time...
Anybody who has worked on Verizon in any capacity will tell you it destroyed their soul and took years of their life. The internal agency is poorly run and dissimilar from a standard agency model. Avoid running from a terrible situation to another one. It really is as bad as everyone says.
Verizon is a blight on my career. Plain and simple. The amount of effort required to satisfy that client does not end in a level of output you will be satisfied with. I get your situation is a bit desperate but just understand that Verizon brings very little upside
I'm glad I found this thread 'cause they just reached out to me.
I'm in the same situation, but by the looks of it, it would be like going from a shitty place to a shittier one.
Make something better come along! Pick up some freelance work to build up your book and start aggressively applying to other spots
There’s a difference between working “in-house” at Verizon, and at the new internal agency at 140 West. The latter ain’t that bad. Great creative leadership, steady work, way better pay+benefits, etc.
Everyone here giving you advice has no idea what they’re talking about, and basing their opinion off of working with Verizon as a client. Those clients/work is completely separated from what you’d touch at 140 West.
And yes, I worked there in freelance capacity.
And what will accepting a job with them do to my dream of working at a great creative agency, if it isn't already dead in the water?
My advice is based on experience with both...
Do a side project or two and you’ll wind up in a better situation. Going in house at Verizon may be slightly better but it’ll be hard to get out once you’re there
Prob the same job SCW2...I guess I'll suck it up and keep crapping out this social garbage in this nightmare of an agency until something better comes along...
Why not quit and start freelancing? At least you’ll get experience at different places and meet people
I'd look for something else. If that's your attitude going in, you're going to hate it within 3 months. You'd work more normal hours but it won't be any less of a shit show.
If only I could quit...
Anybody willing to take a peek at my current side project?? I'm looking to build it soon but I feel like I'd love to get it in front of a CD before spending money to get it made
@DP 1 you may be correct but as a creative working on Verizon is not looked on very positively even if working in house is relatively pleasant
Dp1 what does 130 west do?
If you can, quit to freelance and work on your book. But only if you know for sure you can push yourself to work on your book solo.
Aren’t you getting a new cd soon? Maybe things will change
Me? Do you somehow know who I am?
