I know there’s a whole thing about women using too many exclamation points and being over-friendly in their work emails, but I absolutely LOVE the clients (usually millennial women) who send enthusiastic emails and gush over my work. The positive affirmation is great. I get so jazzed to help them.

I got this email (with my boss copied on it) from a huge client a week ago and I’m still thinking about it. I’m only a third year, so this kind of thing really makes me feel like I’m good at my job 🤓

Love these tips!!

I agree! Elder millennial here. As a younger attorney I always felt like I had to keep my emails nearly exclamation point-free even though my general demeanor is pretty upbeat and I use them liberally in personal emails and texts. I was worried people wouldn’t take me seriously. Now I let the !!!! fly and I never miss an opportunity to let someone know when I feel they’ve done a great job or have gone over and above. People can take it how they want…It’s just my small way of putting some positivity back into the universe haha.

Now that I’m in house and work with mostly women, I’m over-the-top liberal with my exclamation marks. I also think it helps in our remote world to make emails as friendly as possible. Otherwise, the slightest comment comes off like I’m yelling at someone. And I love getting emails filled with exclamation marks from coworkers and managers!

I like them too and use them with peers.

Just curious, are you gen z, millennial, or above?

Anyone else tired of the assumption that because you’re a partner you have to think a certain way and believe certain things. I’m talking about wokeness, work from home, and the recent ever constant pushing of the needle to the left or risk getting “cancelled”. I’m fairly liberal politically so for me to be saying this I think may say something for the current climate. I should be able to hold and express my own opinions without being quashed because I’m not “woke” enough.

She agreed with the argument and submitted request to HR. Last week I asked her for an update and she casually said it will probably take three more months bc HR is so backed up and dropped it.
