It’s a shit show not just NY everywhere . We started as covid19 now in covid22 and I have cared for my son from 8 months to almost 3 years now through multiple closures of daycare. I don’t have tips but I can say I look 10 years older, almost bald , gained 15 pounds and me and husband fight like crazy ( we are still surprised we are married ). Tried having a sitter she ended up positive too.
All mothers( parents) in the pandemic deserve some love. Unfortunately, some younger team members I work with pass on comments like you shouldn’t have had a kid , while heard some partners say - I got covid and worked all 14 days while you couldn’t attend the call at 7 am in the morning . I am beyond pissed at the world

I want to find that partner and tell her how bad of an example she is setting! It’s people like these in senior management that really ruin the culture! And unfortunately it’s everywhere! I am dealing with over 50 men who don’t have a clue how hard it’s for me to continue chatting after the hour long meeting is over because guess what! It’s bath time, night schedule and what not! Somedays I fantasize having a team with people who are parents (real deal, like switching off video, mom buns) and not holiday postcards family parents…

I’m considering quitting my job. Not to be dramatic but I am tired of the constant fear and anxiety around childcare. Even when daycare/school is open, I’m stressed because I know they could close at any time.
I can always rejoin the workforce once covid restrictions are in the rear view mirror.

I’m dreading the thought of daycare closing😫
You guys are in office? Didn’t think it was going to be a huge issue bc most firms are still remote

Lol C1 - what? You clearly don't have a kid this age while trying to work full-time
I don’t know how I’m doing it but I’ve been caring for my 2 year old and working from home since Jan 2021. I’ve enrolled him in 2 different full-day day cares 15-35 minutes away from our home and pulled him out after 2 days in both cases (Feb & November). Care was questionable. In Nov he contracted 2 different viruses in a 2-day period from children at the last day care and had rashes all over his body (not COVID) - How?!?
I rather care for my child myself until he’s 3 years old. Thankfully , he’ll start Pre-K3 at a new school 4 minutes away next fall for 3 hours a day.

Would love to hear how you balance full time work with full time child care as well. We have two who are 2 and 4 now

In similar boat and just tired of this! Our daycare will be most likely closed as well and I prepping myself to take leaves. I will have to work couple of hours at night post bedtime but that’s where we are going. Hubby and I are thinking of tag teaming with leaves and work days, but really don’t have any solutions. The cases are anticipated to rise post second week so even if the daycare opens on Jan 3, it’s just matter of days. I know I am sounding pessimistic and venting, please excuse. It’s been long hard week and I am not looking forward to holidays…
Have you considered getting help?
Getting care during the workday when it's temporary and everyone else is looking for that as well is incredibly difficult. We tried to go that route and wound up having to compromise on hours significantly and pay more than we ever thought we'd have to.
