^Exactly- have some historical context for like 2 seconds and think about how ridiculous what you're saying is. Do you get pulled over for being white? Do you get shot to death trying to grab your wallet out of your back pocket in front of your girlfriend and a little kid at a routine traffic stop for a broken tail light? I'm sorry that people threw you a few nasty looks, but Jesus have some perspective...
I guess to summarize, now that I've had some more time to think about this, OP, I think what has unnerved me the most about your original post is this- as a self proclaimed, privileged white girl who likes nice things, your first thought in this situation is that "less privileged black people need to treat me better" - it screams of a gross sense of entitlement, and a general lack of awareness for racial inequality both in today's society and in the broader historical context of life in the South. Furthermore, you make several assumptions in your post about said "less privileged black people" that have no factual backing. How do you know this lady wasn't just having a bad day? People are mistreated every day for a multitude of reasons- many of which have nothing to do with race, gender, or socioeconomic class...to automatically assume you're being mistreated for any of the aforementioned reasons without any sort of supporting evidence further indicates that you have some serious underlying racial biases that are altogether ignorant and have no place in modern society, let alone at Deloitte, where we make every effort to include everyone. I really hope that you deal with these biases in your own way, and I hope you do it quickly, because it's concerning to know you are representing our firm.
It's not because they are black. I've been treated the same way by poor uneducated hick white people.
Must be Atlanta
Like oh my God. Like me too. Like wtf. Like Life isn't fair. We should be allowed to have nice things AND not have to encounter poor people!!! Ugh I can't deal
Absolutely nothing. Enjoy the privileges you were either born with or worked hard for. But don't complain about how others are jealous or how they act out that jealousy - that's petty and a serious #firstworldproblem
What does race have to do with it? I have been treated poorly by all! I am a well educated African America female, who has obtained a PhD. You wouldn't believe how many people here at Deloitte have belittled me. Unfortunately, they just all happen to be white! However, I don't view this as a race problem... I just happened to encounter ignorant people. You should really provide some clarification around this statement you have made.... You sound a little racist !
Don't feel bad OP. They're just jealous. If they only applied themselves they too could afford nice things.
Girl shut up....
This right here is why I understand most black people think whites are racist..
Recognizing your privilege is often the best you can do. Smile and move on
OP I know what you're saying but it's actually impossible for racism to go both ways. The way people use the term racism in this country is flawed. Racism is the systematic oppression of a given race. When you are a minority population it is impossible for you to systematically oppress another race. What you're referring to is prejudice. Just trying to educate :)
I believe you.
Ok so it sounds like you live in Atlanta and tried to test drive a BMW 3 series through the Bluff and you're surprised that people are giving you shit? You're lucky they didn't do more than just say stuff. Sounds like you need to be more aware of your surroundings and have a bit more perspective and grace for those less fortunate than you.
Lol @D2 thinking a 3-series is a $60k car.
It was a C class Mercedes, which is kind of unrelated.... My point with this post was to show that racism goes both ways and these days it is frowned upon to even imply that. This whole attitude of eye for an eye and "you didn't get shot by the police", is not the solution. No one should be treated like shit cause they have achieved something better than someone else and no one should get shot for being of a certain race. Idk why some people think that since I complain about treated poorly means I also don't notice what is going on and how shit has been going down lately.
Let me ask you this, is it racism because they are upset you are white? Or is it just someone upset you have something more than them, that isn't racism.. Someone treating you poorly because you are white is different than someone treating you poorly because you are driving around with a 60k car 😕
Time to parking lot the dictionary discussion...
Damn white people crack me up
I believe you.
