Yes. They will be banned on public roads and our great grandchildren will be horrified that we used to manually operate vehicles
Fair enough. It seems to be that it would almost have to be mandated. Else the transitory phase presents too many challenges with a mix of humans and robots
Some might, sure. For the majority of people, cars are simply a method of transport. If there comes an easier way, they will take that.
Enthusiasts will continue to be enthusiasts.
Whenever that happens, I can see people owning a few cars as a side business (robo taxi).
I’m not holding my breath, when it does happen it’s going to be cool.
I'd imagine the economics of a robotaxi business operated by individuals would not benefit from the economies of scale of a larger player like Uber or waymo.
Yes, the economics of owning won't make any sense anymore which will be the biggest driver. I wouldn't be surprised if Tesla stopped selling cars with full self driving to customers. They would want a monopoly in the robo taxi business. Why have you as a competitor?
You'll be able to Uber(or equivalent) everywhere for next to nothing (relatively).
Enthusiasts might still own but they will be collectors.
Half the current Uber rates should be enough, even though they could take it much lower since the cost of operation will be electricity, tire wear, brake wear (eliminating driver, insurance, gasoline, oil change, tips).
People would still own cars for the convenience factor. No one wants to wait 5-10 minutes every time they need to go somewhere or get picked up. Also have to worry about the type of car you get or if it’s clean or not.
Also, everything would seem tied to your phone so battery and service are further limiting factors. Phone dies on a hike? Good luck getting home
I think there will come a day where cars are for racetracks only. It will be a long time, but it’s bound to happen.
