I know we usually come here to vent or seek advice, but I'd love to hear some happy stories on this rainy day. Who here *loves* their agency? Please give us lots of inspiring deets!

I love my job. Is it perfect? Of course not. But I constantly remind myself that we come up with funny TV commercials for a living. Sure, there’s the dirty work, the painful work. But you write something on paper and possibly millions of people smirk at it? Holy hell, that’s amazing. And aside from painful clients, the majority of our job is to sit around and talk to people we (hopefully) like for 10+ hours a day. Yes, getting ideas killed sucks. Clients can suck. But go shadow one of your lawyer or accountant friends for a day, then you’ll realize how lucky you are for having a job like this. Also....how lucky you are for having a job in general. You’re not unemployed. You’re not making minimum wage. And your job is to be clever. It’s fucking unbelievable.

Same. Love it!

I love my agency. Been to several and finally found one I’m happy at. CD always checks in with me and asks me how I’m doing. My team is laid back and jokes with one another. Everyone gets in at 10am and for the most part, people leave at 5. If ever there’s a long night, the whole team chimes in to make sure the work gets done, they don’t like just having one person ‘stuck’ with work. Honestly, everyone in the agency is very nice, always smiling and accommodating, even if you don’t know them or they aren’t on your team. We also have summer Friday’s, have fruit every Wednesday, and bagels once a month. There’s free drinks and a cheap vending machine. Good eateries everywhere. The work and creative atmosphere is great too!! The positivity in the place definitely helps!

Thank you! I'll definitely look into it.

I really like where I work. Idk if I’d say love, but coming off the heels of an agency where I was regularly doing 60+ hr weeks for a CEO who was a self important douche - to now working a regular 40 hr week for a guy who is humble and thoughtful, is a huge difference. It’s not as creatively inspiring or challenging, but the work is good, the clients are good, the team is nice, and sleeping is wonderful

Care to share where?

I once worked at a small regional agency that during the Big Recession had to lay off a bunch of people. When the CEO announced the layoffs to those of us who were left, he broke down crying. He genuinely considered some of the people he laid off, friends. I could see he was really distraught over this. He was a good person. That’s rare in this business.

I love my shop. We were founded by two women, Buddhists, and have a dedication to doing good in the world. That’s kool-aid, but it’s authentic and also good for business We also have leadership that supports us, sometimes in opposition to clients when that’s the right thing to do. Not a lot of that in my history at other shops!

Sounds wonderful!

I love my job. My CD is hilarious, my co-workers are really sweet and fun to be around, we’ve got tons of snacks, and the work wins awards. The hours can suck sometimes but for every couple late nights there’s a day where I roll in at 10 and spend several hours reading design blogs and shooting the shit with my partner. All of my friends who work more conventional jobs are insanely jealous of the tiny perks and freedoms we take for granted.

After a decade at agencies, I went client side a few years back, and I’m genuinely happy at work for the first time in years. (But as the natural pessimist I am, I always seem to remind myself that this is temporary , as every other job I’ve had).

Great advice, thank you.

Our CCO is one of the few creative leaders I’ve met who isn’t an egomaniac. It’s pretty refreshing, I didn’t know genuinely nice people could make it to the top in this business.

Bruh! It's draining. 😩 I am happy to hear this.

I do! Very happy at AKQA. Really smart people, calm environment, reasonable expectations. In my previous role I thought it didn’t exist... keep looking, there’s something for everyone.

I actually do. I went from a big agency with a ‘famous’ name to a lesser known shop undergoing a rebuild. I traded long hours for great coworkers, a decent work life balance, and potential to do great work. Sure it’s not perfect, but I’ve seen the other side and I wouldn’t go back.

I love my people. Full stop. We are in the trenches together and it is beautiful.

There are things about my agency that I vastly dislike, but I am happy here. I am also actively doing my part to make it a better place to work, and that’s important to me. I manage our softball team and take the team out for beers and apps after every game, on the company. 🍺 🍻

I like my team. With the merger there’s been so many question marks. It could have been hairy but it’s been great.

likehelpful

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA sorry.

like

It did stop raining, right. It always does. I do what I do for the teams and fight the righteous battles. We don’t always win, but we never stop fighting and we hopefully win more than we lose. I smile more than I frown and keep coming back. Be the person you want the agency to be and fuck off to the rest - hopefully time will serve them their dues.

I had an eye appointment in June due to an issue with my eyes. When I called to make the appointment, they told me they would bill xx code, and insurance will cover a certain amount and I will have to cover $100. I confirmed with my insurance before the appointment. After the appointment, I received a bill with the incorrect code billed (similar code description), and I have to pay $180. I went to a different doctor in August because I still had the eye issue, and they billed the correct code..
