I started working for my company about 6 weeks ago and I was originally hired to work from a specific location closer to my home. I was told the 1st day of my employment that the location “is not ready yet” and that I would be working out of a temp location further from my home. It has been really inconvenient for me to say the very least and the remote option is unavailable to me until after the probation period which is 6 months. How should I approach having this conversation with my director?

I have a dear friend who was recent laid off from a tech company. I’m currently in my first in-house counsel position and was able to secure the job off of cold applying and don’t really have much advice to give. I really want to help support. I know about goinhouse.com and I know people say recruiters (I never found them helpful so wondering how). How did you find your gig? Sites? Been laid off and how to bounce back? Thanks!

Also, when a kid appears in a man’s zoom, he’s a modern day hero. When it happens to a female, she’s not managing her job.

Google emotional labor. And then google “unpaid labor in the home.” It’s the opposite of an illusion - it’s putting front and center what exists - women are responsible for almost all domestic labor - on top of their paid job.
My experience at my agency has been that I do a lot of men pitching in with their kids and dogs, and even one of my clients is always having his baby to give his wife a break- but, I’ve heard that is not the common experience by any means (sad as that is)
I’ve noticed when kids are around (audible) my male coworkers mostly don’t go on camera.

Also, just because you don’t see the kids on a person’s zoom does not mean they are neglecting their duties as a parent.
I never see either with kids on camera. I’ll hear them in the background but in the last year I’ve only seen two toddlers appear on zoom. One belonging to a male colleague when dad needed to transform the transformer back into the car, and one when mom needed to open the juice box. 🤷🏻♀️
