What documents should I request from my old employer before leaving? Are there any documents needed from my employer for ILR application?

I feel like my creative team is secretly criticizing me for asking them to build decks (their job) and make executive and client revisions (also their job). It’s making me feel like a bad producer, but I’m also wondering why aren’t they in a more cooperative or positive mood when we meet to talk about work?

Can y’all define “ big law”? I do residential transactional closings for residential buy/sell, leases and business transactions. How do I get into “big law” with my related experience?

I know as attorneys of color, we often find ourselves being in a room with dozens of attorneys and still were the only attorney of color (I’m a brown woman, very often the only brown person AND only woman in the room). I’m starting to attend more client meetings and depositions, trials, etc. and I’m noticing it more and it’s starting to distract me bc I start overthinking it in the moment. How do y’all deal with that?

What area do you specialize in as an attorney and why did you choose it?

I’m an aspiring court reporter. Kind of weird to ask here, I know, but is there any place I can go to link with other black reporters? I’ve tried looking on ig and fb but there’s nothing exclusive for people of color. I even created a bowl here and shnada so far. Also, is it common for you to use the same reporter for different jobs? I’m wondering if I could work freelance and maybe have contracts with a few solid attorneys. So many horror stories around Court Reporting firms. TIA for reading!

I feel like I'm going through really bad imposter syndrome, How do you manage it ?

How's everyone doing? I was on social media today and reading about the Adam Toledo video and it took me back to last June, which on top of the pain from seeing this racist system continue to win out, June was my lowest billing month and hurt my confidence about hitting hours compared to my white peers.

How are other people dealing with 1) trauma of another racist murder by cops and 2) impact on work? I am not black, so my pain does not compare but I can't act like things are fine either...

I'm frustrated and don't know where to go with this.

I was recently in consideration for a promotion but got passed over. I was told , in confidence, that I viewed as less serious about the role because I teleworked while colleagues were getting back to the office. That was viewed by senior leaders as being less serious about the job.

I mean, I have a job but I feel I will never advance if I use the benefits offered. Is this the same everywhere? Do teleworking lawyers ever get promoted?

I currently do insurance defense but have been wanting to do more meaningful work, especially for the cause of helping other minorities. I have an offer from an employment discrimination firm that I’m considering taking. Anyone here do employment discrimination? If so, are you fulfilled by your work?

Slightly embarrassing, but in the past 2 years at my firm I have actually gone by a shortened version of my first name as many people outside my ethnic background have difficulty pronouncing it in full.

I’d now like to go by my full name - any tips on easing it into email signatures / conversation?
