Here we go again .. doe-eyed college grads posting on LinkedIn how excited they are to join a big 4.. so naive, so innocent.
Returning to B4 firm post-MBA in a few months - I was thinking I'd like to start reaching out to some of the contacts I'd networked with last summer to see what they're up to / what projects they have pending. Just wondering if this makes sense or if it'd be more annoying than anything. Thanks
I'm trying to leave my job in big 4 (2nd yr). But, I don't feel adequate enough to try for senior positions (even entry-level). I feel so 'cause I see myself as an impostor: I don't know what I'm doing. I went to univ. and I'm ashamed to have trouble remembering certain basic concepts. Somehow I just survived, yet this feeling still remains to this day. It's clear I am not fit to work here. TBH, I think I got it by luck. I'm frustrated trying to change jobs yet I feel like I'm not good.
If every firm went into a physical Olympic Games who would win? MBB +500 all socially inept Big 4 -100 Harding D3 athletes that take intramural too seriously
McKinsey Digital Labs or SC at a Big 4?
How do you respond to "What do you want to do?", asked asked by a partner? I joined consulting as part of an acquisition, never really wanted this career. I honestly just want to make money and get promoted for the experience. I've really enjoyed my time at a B4 and have learned a ton but am not partner track. Is it bad to admit I'm not looking to make partner? Will that hurt my promotion to manager chances? Do I need to tell him something more specific than "I want to make manager?"
Any idea what aspects of a case interview results in a reject? I recently interviewed with a Big 4 Life-sciences strategy team and I am kinda not happy with my performance. 😒 I just want to assess my chances. My mind is occupied thinking of what I could have done better😑
Anyone here done their MBA in Toronto? Curious to know if it actually did anything for your career. Currently a manager in consulting at a big 4
boutique vs. big 4 vs. MBB? Pros and cons.
Has anyone jumped from Big 4 Advisory to Tier 1 Consulting firms (e.g. MBB). Was the jump at the same, higher or lower level?
How's a US CMA vs CIMA? Big 4 M in a finance transformation role who's become somewhat of a generalist who knows GBS and operating model design. Looking at this decision to study as an accelerator to exit consulting and having a safety net to do so. Preferred roles are in finance business partnering, program management or key account Mgmt (won't need a finance degree for the last two, I assume, but will help to drive conversations nevertheless).
Going into a big 4 company as an experienced hire, say KPMG, what is the training process like? Or is there even one?
As much as everyone complains about the B4 (guilty as well) I am so grateful that we have great careers and with awesome trajectory. I have friends still doing landscaping and serving tables.
Do you guys at BCG think it would be a smart decision to make a lateral move to PL from Big 4? Have great network and support at current company. The MBB brand, 20k increase in TC, and potential better exit opportunities would be reasons to move. Worried about the challenges of starting from scratch at BCG, proving myself as IC in first few projects, and probably a worse WLB. Would love any insights TIA!
4 years of experience in IT field prior to my masters and have 2 years in D as C. Planning to jump as SC to another big 4. How much can I negotiate for? P.S my base city is one of the expensive cities
Is anyone else at B4 getting slaughtered? Wait listed everywhere so far despite 760 and above average stem GPA at all schools i applied to. Leadership is probably a weak point for me ill admit but certainly not non existant and I know my ECs are above average. I feel completely blindsided
Chance me: 3.7 from semi-target, 1 year in big 4 consulting, 2 STEM master’s from HYPS, 2 years at top quant hedge fund (Bridgewater/Citadel/Two Sigma), 750 GMAT. No extracurriculars, white male. Want to start my own fund in a few years. Targeting HSW.
Will b4 pay for gmat prep?
Non-US / UK consulting partners - I have been long following the posts here. What I realise is that the US partners feel very strongly that being a B4 partner is best opportunity once could have (maybe just followed by FAANG). With the $1M+ pay and a pension, potentially it makes a lot of sense. With no pensions and some of start ups, Tech companies paying more in other countries, global roles (vs local focus) - what are your views about considering opportunities outside B4

Do you send a thank you note to people you know were helpful in your case for promotion?
Any thoughts on Roland Berger. Was approached but don’t have enough information about them. Seem to be known for due diligence mainly. Any insights on culture; types of projects, people, compensation?
How difficult is it to move into IB if you get into a Top 15 business school, but don’t have a finance background? In my case, my background is in B4 implementation work.
Any examples of pharma/healthcare TikToks?
Just giving a bit of Gyan to fellow fishers Please please do not ever use CTC comparison between current and next company. If you get an offer, do an in hand calculation. Some companies add Retirals like Employer PF, Gratuity along with Insurance, furniture allowance as part of your CTC. Others don't. Sone also have higher variable package. So when you do a CTC delta you may get a 20% hike but when you discount the above things you will fall short and may end up making less. So choose wisely.
Flying United from SFO to India. They require a RT-PCR negative test with a QR code. Anyone knows of clinics or centers to get the test done? (East Bay resident)
Thoughts on Riveron? My SO is interviewing there but heard they did a substantial furlough/layoff earlier this year. Seems like things might be better since they just announced a new acquisition in the past week?
How do you talk about your work in consulting in job interviews? Would love some pointers.
Is it unethical to get those free at-home Covid-19 tests? I have insurance, seems like there might be others with more need?
Guys what teams/space should I target if I absolutely do not want to work on making presentation Ideal work would be something related to programming and very little client presentation/requirement gathering
Would you hold a zoom issue against an applicant during an interview? I had a recruiter fail to send me a password for a meeting so we started 15 minutes late and I’m wondering how that looks internally. My gut says it doesn’t matter but I’ve never worked at a major firm.
I am a senior ETL developer and I make 130K cad. I want to increase my income. In most companies I see that they pay the same for senior data engineers or data architects. What are the companies or roles should I target in order to raise my income? (PS - I am not interested in non technical or consulting roles)
Do you fully disconnect during vacation?
Why are the Big 4 considered to be the best places to work and best consulting firms? Other than prestige and brand I don’t understand why they’re consistently rated and regarded so highly
Serious question: Anyone work in or know of companies that do not have a overtly leftist culture?
Quick reminder to remember custodial workers when making gift lists. Been a hard year for all of us, but I know the lady who cares for me and my room has had to go above and beyond the call of duty. But it’s exhausting and I have to find ways to thank and encourage her. Best wishes to you all. I hope for a restful and recharging break, and peace and love to you turning the calendar page. If you celebrate a holiday, may this one be especially significant and full of reverence and blessing.
My one year at first out of college job is coming up, despite conditions - should I still ask for a raise and a formal virtual performance review. (It is a small firm and they will avoid it if I don’t bring it up). The firm has been making the same if not more profits than they usually would. Thanks!
I have cleared all round including HR round also, they ask me to upload salary slip, offer letter, hike letter after salary discussion. Then they again sent mail for upload updated resume with college name mention where I did my graduation, instead of asking for upload documents like marksheet, experience letter etc. Is it common for all to release offer letter. Is anyone went through same process as mine. Please let me know.
