I left a job at a nonprofit org 2 mo. ago that sucked me dry... I felt undervalued and I no longer connected well with most staff. However, I spent the last 5 years there and I feel glued to them emotionally. I love the cause and the work they do. I did make some connections. Now I'm in a new job that I LOVE and feel VERY valued at, but I'm freelancing for my old org to help them out and make extra $$. I feel shunned, though, like they secretly hate me. How do I handle this internal dilemma?

Where are you located and where does payroll live in your company, and what size/industry? I'm in Ontario Canada, small (75 ppl tech firm) and payroll has always sat in finance. In prev other small and mid sized tech companies has been the same, payroll is in finance. Our new American finance leader wants it to move to HR and I absolutely do not want payroll, nor is my team capable of doing payroll, even with training. It's not standard from what I've seen, but curious what others experience is

I’m not old BUT when I was younger I thought it was important to have all the alphabets after my name (I.e. Phr, SHRM and all the others). I learning that the younger crowd coming into the market thrives off these identifiers yet they know very little about the real world aspects of the job. I watch leadership roll their eyes at the email footers. I feel like keeping those attached to my name hurts my credibility so I removed them…. I’m I thinking wrong?

Is an iphone too expensive as a (belated) mother’s day gift? My mother needs a new phone and has been using iphone for a long time. She is now retired and probably can’t afford an iphone, but she’d want an iphone to use facetime, and privacy. MIL has money but uses cheaper phones. I want to buy one for my mom and MIL as well (for fairness). But somehow it also seems like a big spend as we’re also paying mortgage. We’re immigrants and also we pay for flights etc every year for parents. WWYD?
