I like DD work more than the boring project/IMO/SMO work but cannot put up with working weekends given the salary (I came from IB where you are actually paid for this time).

Open to thoughts - what other consulting firms or groups have interesting work and higher pay, but keep weekends free? Is it worth it to stay if I am a strong performer on DDs? MBA?

PWC deals strategy team, LEK or EY-Parthenon. BCG PIPE team, too.

CDD and VDD is like Navy Seal training. You have to learn how to stack lots of parallel processes, own the answer, knock out a Quant survey, TAM model, etc in 3 weeks. In a year or 2 , there is nothing you can't handle.

What's the comp like at the PortCo? Wouldn't consider that a typical partner exit unless you get coinvest or have something on the come from the exit

Why no go to an actual CDD shop/practice? Deals Strategy in PwC would be an example

like

PwC Deals Strategy is closest you’ll get to ibanking hours and culture with consulting pay. The pay is good, don’t get me wrong, but you’ll be working weekends.

🖐 ~60% PE work, more in non-LS practices, mostly CDD but some VDD/portco strat. Remaining is “growth strategy”, some human capital-type work too. Protected weekends are pretty serious - I’ve worked one weekend in the last year, probably average for pre-MBA level. Not positive on comp but I’d be surprised if we didn’t at least match PwC. DM for referral :)

Honesty runs the gamut and really depends more on industry. I’ve seen new product dev, portfolio optimization, customer segmentation, go-to-market strategy, you name it, across life sciences / pharma, medtech, consumer, industrials, even media.

What level and pay are you getting? What are you expecting? EYP pay isn’t that bad

like

Associate around ~90k TC. Would get a pay bump at EYP for junior levels and considering I don’t have an MBA, but wondering if the comp evens out with PwC in the senior levels / long run

Comes with the job - CDD’s burn you out quick

like

Are weekends generally protected for CDD? Or are you on call 24/7 per any live M&A deal

like

Deals Strategy @ S&

like

EYP CDD is mostly Mon to Fri and reasonable hours. Associate is $110-125k I think without an MBA

There are no due diligence teams doing 40 hour weeks. Ops DD is the least hours around 50-60. CDD feels more like 60-65 hours. But at EYP I generally haven’t worked weekends in 6 years
