Also, I hate to be that guy, but you’ve gotta think larger than just Deloitte (in terms of comp fairness). I’m a second-year BA ... happy enough with my comp but also know my peers (aka same timing out of Ivy League school) at MBB are making 95-105K, not including bonus (which we don’t get as BAs here). I’m not looking to jump ship or anything of the sort, but I’ll always stand up for folks looking to raise their comp by leaving for a competitor. You’ve always gotta take care of yourself and your comp needs.

If there is opportunity to improve and be recognized for it, you’d be a fool walk away from people and work you enjoy - that’s the hardest shit to find.

Also, never leverage an outside offer for a promotion. No one cares that other companies think you’re hot. "They want you? Go.” As a manager, I know $100 (after tax) more per paycheck ain’t gonna keep you here.

You want more money in your current job, prove you’re worth it by kicking ass.

You’re unhappy with 85k as a 24 year old?

Talk with your career manager/direct manager/whatever Deloitte has and tell them pretty much what you said (that you love the job and people, but think you’re underpaid given the work you do) and be sure to include specific points on why you are underpaid. Ask what they think about a market salary adjustment and what you need to do to ensure your promotion and execute

like

Should I wait till I make the promotion and try to negotiate a higher raise? Other suggestions? I think I need to prove myself more before I can ask for a raise. Also I prefer not having to play games with another offer on the table

like

Same same, OP. Unhappy with the pay but like the job and people

like

How do you all know what OP makes?? I had to practically beg on my knees for a raise after 3 years. (Before that i begged standing up). People who were doing less at the same level were making much more.

Standard pay is only for campus hire. I was an experienced hire with a non-MBA advanced degree from an Ivy League school. I’m 27 with almost 4 years of experience and base is $98k. Campus hire with the same degree starts at around 110k at Deloitte. I’ve been with the firm for 1.5 years and I still make less than them. People coming from MBA programs with 3-4 years of work experiences start at 140k at Deloitte. I don’t think I’m being greedy.

like

Folks, ain’t none of us getting wealthy as employees. The game here is partnership, and even that isn’t nearly what it used to be. We get paid good money, but the end game is either partnership or shift to industry exec positions. Both require some time invested at the lower levels

like

I doubt they'll let you negotiate a raise. Let's be honest, it's not like you're irreplaceable. Even if you could negotiate up, they'll just cut your raises in the future.
It happened with me. I started at $500 higher than the rest of my hire group (same office, same department). Everyone got an 8% raise, but I got a 7.5% to make me even with the others.

Because he’s worked for a year and a half at Deloitte. Literally everyone gets the same starting offer.
So it’s not hard to know what he makes, give or take $5k

Same here. Industry pays more for my skill set but for some reason I’m still slogging it out here...

It’s much more difficult to negotiate pay and promotions in industry though. Yes you can do this easily by switching companies but once you’re in, someone has to die for you to move up.

like

D2 - Thoughts!?

like

D4 - I hear you. It all depends on whom you compare with. It’s hard to find a job you like. I like my job but I also have other obligations (e.g., family) that require more financial resources. I guess we just can’t have it all 🤷🏼‍♂️

like

How much more of a raise will you actually be happy with? And is that percentage even possible with a promotion? You probably don’t want to wait 9 months just to get disappointed. You like the job but honestly I think the culture and work is pretty similar across the big 4 for the most part. Just don’t join EY because you have to pay for lunch

like

Also Deloitte doesn’t really care about non-MBA advanced degrees

Recruiter at McK told me what comp I should except - and it’s almost the same as I currently make (maybe 15% extra) - worth going through the entire process? I thought people would get a nice bump when moving to McK not an early annual raise... is there something I am missing?

Have a qq on background checks. Just got an offer from a T2 firm and wanted to see what comes up as a red flag in background checks. A few years ago I was arrested for disorderly conduct, but the charges were dismissed. Do background checks only raise red flags for convictions or does an arrest (even with a dismissal) warrant the offer retraction? I have the finger prints removed, but state law says I can’t get the record expunged for 10 years. Thank you in advance!

I know for a fact aura is little outdated now but still it’s gonna be here for a while atleast few years and there are many projects based on aura too.
