I like my job but feel that my loyalty hasn’t paid in $$. It sounds like making a move might make sense right now. I current sit in ITS, ASC 740 and C Corp specialty groups at my firm. Any thoughts for where a move might make sense for maximizing my skill set? I’ve applied at some fortune 50 companies and gotten offers, but none of them seemed appealing (I’d be stuck picking a specialty). That’s the feeling I get at B4 too. Thoughts appreciated.

Appreciate the response. I’ve considered. Maybe I should interview at some places to get a feel for the market.

Your skill set seems like they’d be in high demand in the Bay Area. The technology companies out here pay a premium for ITS structuring and 740 experience. I’ve known several friends who have made the jump to a tech firm in Sf or SJ at manager level with similar skills sets. They all represent that they’re getting paid $200k+ in total comp, Ie, inclusive of equity. Not sure if you’d be satisfied with the money, but thought it might be a good reference point.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m in SoCal, but maybe I can look to see what remote positions are available. Sounds pretty nice if it’s 200k plus. I’m 150+ rn

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

Is there a general expectation that a Partner has an MBA?

I doubt it's required at most firms but I'm a pretty senior staff and when I speak with Partners, they seem to speak with an MBA level of business knowledge which extends past their technical skillset.

I realize that's what makes them good Partners but it makes me wonder if I realistically need to get an MBA to keep growing and hit Partner.

Is it me or does the newer generation value more intangible things that aren’t easily measured like work-life balance, fulfillment and purpose in work. Which makes it difficult for firms because that’s not something that is easily measured. Also, this is why there is “value” in crypto, NFTs and the metaverse. It’s a clash of the generations that value tangible things like money, houses, cars and one that values time, experiences, personal online image. Thoughts?
