Recruiters are completely, utterly useless and will do nothing but waste your time. Change my mind. Just venting.
The main partner I work for is constantly trying to set “legal traps” to see if I fall into them. For example, he ask me a specific legal question (to which he already knows the answer) to see if I am able to deliver. I’m so nervous now (this has been going on for over a year) that I often end up falling into his trap by doing (stupid) mistakes. What do you advise me to do? My self confidence is slowly getting destroyed. This does not happen with other partners.
Any thoughts on Phillips Lytle? If you could please provide insight on culture/billable requirements? Thank you.
Has anyone received a green card sponsorship from a biglaw firm? I am lateraling into a V50 firm and have been told sponsorship is evaluated on a case by case basis. Wanted to see if anyone had experience with this, it doesn’t seem that easy to qualify under the EB-2 category.
Are there remote Big Law jobs out there? I live in a smaller Florida market.
Is it possible for someone with 5 years experience primarily in ID (including complex excess and high value cases) to move into a Big Law role? Any advice to do this?
I’m a senior associate at an insurance defense and coverage firm in Texas with about 15 attorneys. I’m bringing my first client in. What should I ask for, origination credit (if so, what %), a raise, what? I’m really at a loss here. From what I have heard, there is no standard arrangement at this firm, they negotiate with each associate/partner individually.
Anyone know what Nelson Mullins pays in its Orlando office? Also, what are collections goals/billable hours goals?

I want to get out of ID so badly. I don’t mind the work but the hours are just killing me. I just started at a new firm less than 6 months ago and I am already desperate to get out. It is not the firm or the people. I just hate the high billables. I have been applying to other jobs but I think I may need a recruiter for help. Any recommendation for a great recruiter in NYC?
I’m a veterans law attorney for a not for profit in dc and want to transition to the for private side of this area of law, any suggestions?
4th year in practice in Denver doing insurance defense. I get paid $103k with 1,860 billable hours. Am I underpaid?
For those of you who are in-house, how did you get comfortable with needing to be more of a generalist? I know some in-house roles, especially at large companies, are specialized. However, even then it just seems like you’re expected to know about so many different areas (with far less support than at a firm). I’m tired of billable hours, but I really love (& feel more comfortable) being a specialist.
Considering moving to big law for more money and name recognition. Pay would be at least $120K increase. Big law peeps, if your salary is about 300K a year, how much do you actually see go into your bank account after taxes etc? Is the raise worth it?
Considering getting my nose pierced. It would be a really tiny gold stud, nothing bulky or sparkly. What are the chances this will impact my career…I’m 30, female, and a personal injury lawyer. Been wanting to do this for awhile, thought it would make me look unprofessional. But now I’m thinking life is short and no one would really care. Thoughts?
Best big and mid size firms in Atlanta for real estate? When considering billable hours, comp, culture, etc. I’d appreciate hearing from anyone that generally likes their firm or has any recommendations on firms to stay away from. Considering making the move from a boutique firm as a 5th year lateral.

I don’t work on weekends because it sets the precedent that I’m available on weekends. Work is important but life is of more importance.
Maybe do the work but don’t send it to anyone until Monday?
This and the other comments like it are a good idea.
If I work on a weekend, I don’t send any emails or make phone calls because I don’t to set the precedent as you stated. I will draft emails, but delay sending until Monday morning.
No. No one else.
I assure you your colleagues don’t care about your social life.
