Recruiters are completely, utterly useless and will do nothing but waste your time. Change my mind. Just venting.

The main partner I work for is constantly trying to set “legal traps” to see if I fall into them. For example, he ask me a specific legal question (to which he already knows the answer) to see if I am able to deliver. I’m so nervous now (this has been going on for over a year) that I often end up falling into his trap by doing (stupid) mistakes. What do you advise me to do? My self confidence is slowly getting destroyed. This does not happen with other partners.

Has anyone received a green card sponsorship from a biglaw firm? I am lateraling into a V50 firm and have been told sponsorship is evaluated on a case by case basis. Wanted to see if anyone had experience with this, it doesn’t seem that easy to qualify under the EB-2 category.

I’m a senior associate at an insurance defense and coverage firm in Texas with about 15 attorneys. I’m bringing my first client in. What should I ask for, origination credit (if so, what %), a raise, what? I’m really at a loss here. From what I have heard, there is no standard arrangement at this firm, they negotiate with each associate/partner individually.

For those of you who are in-house, how did you get comfortable with needing to be more of a generalist? I know some in-house roles, especially at large companies, are specialized. However, even then it just seems like you’re expected to know about so many different areas (with far less support than at a firm). I’m tired of billable hours, but I really love (& feel more comfortable) being a specialist.
