Bain & Company What is the likelihood of making SAC in September 2022 if I join as an AC on April 18th at Bain & Company? I am a senior consultant at EY with 3.5 years of experience in Data Analytics. Or is March 2023 more realistic? They told me 6 months for promotion but it seems like the two promotion cycles with my different start dates give me 4 or 9 months of experience, nothing in between. I’ll be joining in the private equity group which will be new for me.
Does anyone have experience with Ben Glass’s “Great Legal Marketing” programs? https://greatlegalmarketing.com
I ordered a free “starter kit” from his company and received a decent-sized box with some books and audio CD’s. Haven’t listened to the CD’s yet, but the books aren’t bad, with plenty of practical advice.
Now he’s running a promotion where you can get two months of his basic-level course for just $19.95 to cover the cost of shipping. It seems that Ben is one of the better-regarded legal marketing “gurus” out there.

@op, can’t speak to most of those points as I’m 23 living close to the loop. City politics, schools, and traffic don’t affect me much at all. There’s so much to do and COL is cheaper than LA, SF, and NY alternatives, I love it.
Moved from Chicago to DC, not going back! Everyone has a "its horrible" opinion about somewhere, once you decide somewhere just go and try it out and if not go somewhere else, you aren't obligated to stay.
Chicago is great when you're young (20s to early 30s), but once you want to buy and settle down it's pretty hard. I just made the difficult decision to leave due to my property taxes going from $5k to $10k over the past 5 years while my value stayed flat. That in addition to the corruption and forthcoming bankruptcy catastrophe. The state of Illinois has over 18,000 people taking home untaxable pensions over $100,000/yr.... just think about that. We're so f*cked.
Houston 🤘
OP depends on what activities would be fun for you. If you like sports, Texas is a good option. For me it was not. I like to hike, be around nature, enjoy an active arts and culture scene. So I moved out from Dallas to Seattle and 3 years later: super glad with moving out.
Second Houston. Or Austin (although you may need connecting flights), Denver, Seattle (no state tax, but it’s on one coast which may mean long travel if you have work on the other coast)
Why do u hate Chicago?
@C1 - I’m far away from sending kids to school too, but the taxes definitely affect you. Our 10+% sales tax is insane. Property taxes get passed through to you in your rent. We pay so much money and get nothing back. Just wait until you buy your first home and pay nearly as much a month on taxes as you do for P & I on your mortgage. I’m looking at places ~$700-800k and taxes are like $1500/month. Since you have a $10k SALT cap, you really get hosed.
I left chi to go back to nyc. Not a fan of Chicago for full time residency either! Great to visit but I was miserable living there
Why not Atlanta ?
Raleigh Durham
Minneapolis is the best Midwest city hands down!
Never heard of folks who despise Houston. Y’all weird.
Good day
^ Second A1. Houston
I second DC, but it’s not as cheap as people think
@D8 wow that’s absurd. So every Illinois citizen is paying $140/year just to pay for pensions of SOME former government employees
C1 - yes. And it’s only going to get worse. “supervisors” for Chicago public transit can make well over $100k to drive around and make sure nobody is hurting themselves on job sites where no construction takes place. Illinois is a joke
C1 - there are 100k getting pensions of $50k or greater. The average age is only 65 (many start at 50 and 25 years) so they'll be getting these for a long time to come. On top of his they have free healthcare. I'm just saying that a lot of bad deals / promises and unsustainable deals ere made by politicians for public unions in the 70s and 80s. Taxpayers today are footing the bill. No private company would ever have gotten away with it.
OP - I moved to Denver
Chicago wasn’t for me either and I really didn’t like Dallas either. Houston is great but, ugh, summer. Denver is a great option and cheaper in taxes than Chicago. Think about Seattle too for the taxes. Housing is pricey so probably offsets.
Awful schools?? I grew up in Chicago and had a best education etc
Charlotte. Denver. Austin
