McKinsey & Company McKinsey & Company been working here one year and received pretty positive feedback. Given the expectation for people of my tenure to transition to EM in a year or so, I can’t see myself staying due to the WLB as an EM. I’m 35 and have 2 young kids. Can it even be realistically done? Would love to stay but I don’t see a balance which would keep my family happy. What options do I have from there?

Yea. Companies come and go. Kellogg announced they are moving to Chicago. I’m sure there will be others that will leave, but also others that will get incentives to move to Chicago.
Rising Star
Kellogg, which is based in Battle Creek, MI is spinning off a company to be based in a Chicago, yet in 5 months we’ll get a press release announcing plans to actually have the spin-off be based in Dallas. I’ll bet you $5 on that

Chicago is one of the top five biggest economies in the WORLD and it’s safer then every Texas city. You’re fine. Relax
Everybody is leaving chicago - crime crime crime - take advantage of working remotely
Nobody wants to move into an area where employees didnt wanna travel to office. Shot at, robbed, car jacked? I am glad you haven't had your share of "chicago experience".. Get yrself a great bullet proof vest probably from the chicago gift shop

SPM1, are you a resident of Naperville or Downers Grove? I noticed people in these suburbs are very susceptible to thinking that Chicago is like Beirut in 1980's.
This isn’t something that’s just happening in Chicago. It’s been happening with many large companies in big cities.
Caterpillar and Boeing showed up relatively recently with relatively few people because of cajoling and $$ from previous mayors/politicians, and they're leaving for more $$. CAT only had like 250 employees in Chicagoland. Citadel is the only real meaningful departure.
This stereotype that you’re going to get gunned down in Chicago trying to commute to work is hilarious. Every Chicagoan knows what areas to avoid / how to stay safe. I don’t think Chicago’s much different than the other major US cities aside from the fact that it hails sideways in the winter
And to add on, Chicago invested $6 billion to create an entire new neighborhood called Lincoln Yards. Doesn’t seem like a city that’s going down the drain if you ask me 🤩
With the recent Supreme Court hearing I bet the moves will slow down. Specially to Dallas,TX
