I left for several years and came back. Most of my 20 closest friends were still around. The number of acquaintances fell off though.
That’s one of my biggest fears, I think. I have a network of really great people right now, but I don’t think a lot of them I’d keep in touch with a lot if I left. Was it worth it for you to leave you think?

Phoenix?? Dude the weather is miserable and it’s not the trendy place you think it is
I’ve visited 3-4 times in the past 2 years. More so than anywhere else I’ve visited (other than home) … Why do you say that? Scottsdale is beautiful
Have a 2nd place in Charleston.
Also like Phoenix quite a bit, and it may be the best option on your list if regularly.
Went to Denver for a few years around your age. Great quality of life but feel like career wise I would’ve been better off in NY/SF/Chicago for what I do. That said, Miami and Austin probably have some great opportunities at the moment.
Fair enough. I know I could be making the same salary without income tax in those two locations not to mention it looks like a blast… But I do have a great professional network here in Chicago. It’s a tough call. Just don’t wanna look back when I’m older and wonder what could’ve been
If your friends are transplants to the city I would expect a fair amount of them to be gone when you get back. It’s not just a chicago thing I see a lot of people change cities around 27. People move closer to home, get married, buy houses, move to the burbs, get new jobs, etc. On the plus side a lot of new people have moved to the city during that time too! If you want to try a new city do it!
Miami ain’t rapidly growing 🤣
