How do you get over the "hump" of Hump Day?
I don’t blame you. I blame the teachers unions. They are constantly moving the goalposts when it comes to returning to class. They’re demanding all teachers get vaccines. Then they’re demanding all students get vaccinated before opening, like that will ever happen. If everyone is vaccinated, they’ll demand multimillion dollar ventilation systems in all the schools. That’s happening already. Do you know how much that will cost all the schools, let alone going through all the red tape? Of course you do.
Through all that, they’ll start demanding instant tests for all staff, students, and visitors. Jeez, we can’t even roll out a smooth vaccine schedule. Now the unions and the “squad” are demanding $305 billion in “coronavirus aid” to reopen “safely”.
Never mind that Chicago Catholic schools and private schools around the country have been open since August with almost NO issues.
But we’re not supposed to talk about that. We’re just Karens and Trump is a racist. Oh yeah, and to make sure all bases are covered, the Chicago Teachers Union claimed that the push to reopen schools is rooted in “sexism and racism.” Huh? I thought in-person teaching would help with the inequities of distance learning. Whatever.
One reason that makes it appear that ‘goalposts are moving’ is because this is a fluid situation. Virus peaks and slows down at different rates in different places across country and now it’s mutating ! Vaccine rollout is bumpy, one reason is that there was no organization. This should start to improve as the Defense Dept steps in to help. For schools to open teachers should have to opportunity to choose to be as safe as
possible, the union is the messenger not the problem!
I’m amazed when I hear parents say “ the teachers are just lazy and don’t want to work”.
I have put more time, energy, and effort into planning and executing lessons this year than I ever have in the past. I have spent more time talking to parents (I’m a sped teacher) than any other year on record, never mind the endless IEP Meetings to CYA with federal mandates. If this is lazy, I’d hate to see what the definition of “busy” is.
I agree. I’m working way HARDER than I ever have before. I think most teachers are, too.
Yes it is true. I am working more: creating two lessons for the same day. One for in person another for the online students. I have to grade double do to the double lessons. And this year it feels like I care more than the students do so the burnout rate is high. Teaching is it what it used to be.
I addition parents are now having to be a parent and then they blame the teacher for not teaching their child manners .....
Parents can be something else, can’t they?
